Hi, Elba: While you are looking up divorces, I have one, too. It would be around 1901-1902 John Wesley Stallions from Martha Frances (Mattie Crabtree) Stallions, probably in Cape Fair. Many thanks in advance, Pat Kracaw
HI Elba, I am having a hard time getting this message to you, for some reason. The divorce was between Thomas McGuire and Matilda Ann (Bowling) McGuire. It would have been between 1898 and 1900. thanks so much for your help. HI Elba, Thank you so much. The divorce is between Thomas McGuire and Matilda Ann (Bowling) McGuire. Their youngest kid was born in June of 1898 Matilda remarried to James Noe Branham in 1900. Some genealogists have assumed Thomas died, but I have recently emailed with 3 McGuires who say that isn't true. And I believe what they have told me. Thomas left and remarried. He either took or went back for 2 of their 3 children. He lived in Oklahoma and died in a motorcycle wreck in (I believe they told me) Idaho around 1912. There is a picture of him, his 2 kids (by Matilda), his 2nd wife, Emma Erb and their 2 kids on the internet. It is dated on the back 1905. I never truely bought into the idea he had died. Never could find anything on him until now. I do appreciate your help. Now that I am on the trail of what happened, I want to go as far as I can with it. Thank you so much...again...it is truely appreciated. Thanks, John Short was a very nice, industrious man. Jim, John was related to Dewey Short--from the Aaron Short, Willis Short, Franklin Smiley Short [who moved to Stone Co.] and then the John William Shorts. None of the previous John Williams were Senior or Junior or II, but my John was John William Short III on his birth certificate. If you knew a Short in Ponce de Leon, they were probably related--we ran into cousins all over the country! Marj
John 9: Are you kin to John Short, the now deceased builder from Ponce De Leon? He was an old friend of mine years ago. I have recently been told by a skilled professional photographer that - the machines at WalMart are pretty sophisticated and that they can produce a rather nice print when properly manipulated. He said he, personally, was often amazed at the results. Also, quick and pretty cheap! Absolutely! Many "photographers" traveled the country printing tintypes of farm and city folk to earn their keep, a meal, a bed and so on. It's a shame that so many have been lost and that so few that remain are unidentifiable - no name or data on it anywhere. Sad! This type of photographer went from town to town--he had no studio. It was about the time of the Civil War. I have two pictures--one of my grandmother's mother, and one of her father. The mother is a photograph, the father is a drawing and his uniform, etc. is painted [probably water colors]. My Mother seemed to think that this was common at the time. They must be by the same person as they are each in identical carved wood frames. Marj
I would like to know if there is a way to clean tin types. I took mine to Wal Mart 5 min machine and they came off pretty good one came out with a green cast and the other a brown but the people looked pretty good especially since the tins are dark or dark green I was surprised I got a picture. Thanks Linda > Marj-- > What type of photographer is itinerant? I have some tin also. > Ellie >
Thanks Marj Ellie
Weren't tin types done by itinerant photographers? I had one of my grandmother and it seems to me that this info came from my mother Marj
Marj-- What type of photographer is itinerant? I have some tin also. Ellie
Are you still taking family info for the book on the 1900 census? If so, how do I get the info on my family to you?
