Thank you for tipping me to the death certs on line site. I found "her" the elusive ggmother! I am sitting by the mailbox until the copies come, and boy is the price right at 1.00 per! Some are view/print, too! I have been scanning for all the names: Norman, Frieze, Berry and Cloud. Also some "sidelines" Holloway, Underwood, Barnes and Yocum. My son says that genealogy is "video games for nerds" because I get so hooked in to it and have so much fun when making progress and cuss and fume when stymied, just like he does with his x-box. The next Hop will be Johnson Cemetery. We will meet at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant at 8 AM for breakfast and then on to the cemetery about 9 AM From Forsyth, take US Hwy 160 E through Kissee Mills. Cem is on south side of highway, near intersection with Cross Timbers Rd. Brian Shay

I stand corrected, and wish to say thanks to all of you who volunteered ! It is a truly fabulous gift you have given to all researchers. I helped with the Death Index and was proud to be able to help.So many have helped me I felt this was a small way to may be help them and others in return. From what I understand, all county transcriptions have been done. It's the image scanning that isn't totally completed but I suspect they wanted a large group of marvelous volunteers happy so got the index accessible. Wonderful data & I did some searching already - still missing several rellies. Some I may have to assume died in Arkansas as well as nearby counties. There are records for Stone County. Only the 1910-1920 have images though. This will only cover deaths from 1910-1955. The pre-1910 death index is only partial. Another thing to remember, is that people may ahve died in a count other than their resident county. Ihave found this to be the case. A lot of my Barry Co family actually died in Greene Co., usually if they were hospitalized. Example---there are several of the Philibert, Taylor, Bolen, Horn families in the Stone Co. Index. Make sure to use the advanced search, as it seems to find more than the basic search. Hi Jo, I know they are still transcribing things and will take volunteers. Stone Co. is in the main Death Index 1910-1955. Over 3000+ people. There is one section on a different index where Stone is not represented, but I cannont make that URL come up right now. Maybe that is where you saw Stone was missing. When I volunteered for the Death Index 1910-55, I asked for Stone Co. But what they had was an alphabetical index, so I typed up the R's. I think there were a few people on this list that volunteered. Cheri On 4/5/06, Peter or Josephine Dunne <pdunne@satx.rr.com> wrote: > > I'm thinking that there was not a volunteer for Stone County. In Search Of ... I was just chatting with a cousin of mine and came up with an idea for a email to help people who are interested in finding out more about their ancestors. In my mind it is a combination of Where are They Now, The Rest of the Story, This is Your Life and Unsolved Mysteries. I've been working several years trying to find out more about my great grandfather, William Houston Stow(e). This is most of the information I have: He was born around 1855. His tombstone is located in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Christian County, MO. I believe I have found him in the following census' 1860 Census, Greene County, Clay TWP, H #80-83, [p. 5]: Solomon STOW, 60, NC, farmer; Parrilla, 50, NC; Elizabeth, 29, TN; John, 26, TN; Solomon, 20, TN; Nancy, 18, TN; Martha, 15, TN; Margaret, 13, TN; Catherine, 11, TN; Austin, 2, MO; Robt., 6, MO; and Wm., 4, MO] [1870 Census, Greene County, Clay TWP, H #128-125, [p. 134]: Lewis STOWE, 30, TN, farmer; Perrilla, 61, NC; Martha, 26, TN; Margaret, 23, TN; Catharine, 21, TN; Austin, 12, MO; William, 16, MO; and Robert, 10 ("0" underlined), MO] [1880 Census, Christian County, Polk TWP, H #234, [p. 28]: William STOWE, 24, TN, farmer; Mary, wife, 22, MO; Alice, 4, MO; and Oliver, 2, MO] 1880 Census, Christian County, Polk TWP H#230 (9?), [P28]: (could this man be William's biological father?) Stow, John, 45, single, TN Cates, Caledonia 18 Niece, MO I notice that the Wm, who I thought was my great grandfather, is listed in the 1860 and 1870 census being born in MO but the 1880 indicates TN. TN is what my mother had told me. Even if MO was a mistake, I question if Perrilla and Solomon were his parents from their age and also the order they are listed in the 1860 & 1870 census'. I do know that William Houston had a brother Bob. Solomon Stow was listed in the TN census in 1850: 1850 TN, Bradley Co, Br-1194-446; Solomon Stow, 50,w,m,NC; Parilee, 40,f,NC; Saml, 23,m,w,TN; Elizabeth, 19,f,w,TN; Delila, 17,f,w,TN; John, 15m,w,TN; Zavina, 12,f,w,TN; Law, 10,m,w,TN; Nancy, 8,f,w,TN; Martha, 6,f,w,TN; Margarett, 4,f,w,TN; Catharine, 2,f,w,TN I'd like to find out who William Houston's biological parents are. I feel that there is someone, somewhere that can help. Another clue is that buried in the same cemetery is Samuel (1800 - 1854) and Elizabeth Stow (1804 - 1890). I believe Samuel is a brother of the above mentioned Solomon. Samuel and Elizabeth are listed in the census': CENSUS: (1)1840 TN, Roane Co; Samuel Stow; 1000101-111201 (2)1850 TN, Roane Co, Ro-154-664; Stow, Samuel, 50,m,w,NC; Eliz, 46,f,w,TN; Emeline, 15,m,w,T; Houston, 11,m, w,TN; Thomas, 9,m,w,TN; James 7,m,w,TN. 1860 CHRISTIAN COUNTY FEDERAL CENSUS POLK TOWNSHIP 615 STOW ELISABETH 60 WIDOW TENN S H 21 FARMER TENN

Juanita, The cemetery hops that I post are sponsored by the White River Valley Historical Society. We are concentrating on Taney county due to the fact that we have identified over 140 burial places in the county and at least 40% of them have not been read in at least 20 years. Many haven't been done in 40 years or so. The Ozarks Genealogical Society has read and compiled numerous volumes of cemetery listings in and around Greene County. On a side note the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War are currently working on a National project to document Civil War Veterans graves through out the U. S. They have concentrated on Greene, Christian and Lawrence counties, but intend to do all of Southwest Missouri.
