William H. Bess married Sarah "Sallie" Bess (his cousin). One of their children was Martin, born 1829 in MO, and he married twice. First wife was Lucinda, b. 1837, second wife was Jane, b, 1848. Martin and Jane had two daughters, Caroline, b. 1861, and Rebecca J. born 1868. Family tradition says that William H. was killed by guerillas during the Civil War. They were living in the home of Martin and Lucinda. Apparently she died sometime afterwards, and he remarried Jane. Have no children for Lucinda. Cemetery records show Sarah R. as the wife of William Christian, and he is listed as a Woodsman. Perhaps her name was Sarah Rebecca Jane. Not uncommon for children to have three or more names.
