Last night I was reading an article in our Rural MO Electric monthly news about a Martin family and a misplaced Tombstone. You may have already heard of this, as I picked up part of the story earlier when the Historical Society _ Trish Erzfeld, was looking for help in learning about this tombstone. The lost tombstone for baby James W. (infant) son of Ira and Mary Martin, born Oct 20 1907 The tombstone was sold with other things to a Texas antique dealer, by a man from Perryville county MO. The dealer, Ned Coleman, contacted the Perryville Historical Society and returned the stone to them. They (Perryville Historical Society) has since learned, through much work with the Internet and Hard copies of Historical records, located the grave of James W. martin, buried in Enon Cemetery in Carroll County in the same plot with his grandparents. Recently the MOGS, had an article of interest, regarding the Internet, and the Paper records. I think this is a perfect example of how much we can find quickly on the Internet, AND how IMPORTANT the Genealogy and Historical Societies are. Without the Genealogy and Historical Societies, we would not have the information we have for the Internet research. Without the Internet, we would not have access as quickly to these records. I suggest if you do not belong to a Genealogy or Historical Society, you strongly think about joining at least ONE, to show support of their work. The above statement is only my opinion. I have gained much from reading the material printed by these organizations. Have a good day.
