I don't have definite proof but I believe John was the son of James W. Matthews who was the son of John Matthews who named Glasgow, KY, for his hometown in Scotland. I was hoping to hear from Tina because I know her Lizzie Matthews Cartwright was a sister to my greatgrandfather Isaac Matthews. I am in the process of trying to compile as much information as possible. My email is silvertrill@yahoo.com and I will try to send you an email soon so that we may futher correspond. Thank you for the 1900 census information and I would love to see the homestead paper. History (any and all) interests me greatly! Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.stoddard/503.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: So very nice to hear from Aunt Mattie's descendents. I remember her well. She visited in our home often when I was young. Her son, Cletus, lived with us off and on all my growing up. Cletus died and is buried in Mexico. I found her husband's, Charles Evert Manning, grave in Arkansas. Aunt Mattie was a sister to my grandmother, Mary Arbella Stewart. On the 1900 census it states Martha Elizabeth Cookston was the mother of 10 with 8 living. I knew all the eight as a child. I found 2 graves near Puxico of babies that fit into skips in the order of the eight but have not been able to prove them. I also have a copy of the homestead paper of Aaron Cookston, Martha Elizabeth's father. Let me know how to send you what info I have. I'm looking for more and have very few historical records on Cardinal Stewart which upsets me. Cardinal Stewart and Martha Elizabeth Cookston are my great-great-great grandparents. I have some lookups from the Stoddard Co. area and I live and work in Malden, MO (Dunklin Co.). Can we compare notes?? I can tell you that James is probably not Louisa's husband. He married a Fiola. My line out of this is Cardinal and Martha's daughter Mattie. Mattie married Charles Manning. I do not have that 1900 census but would be very interested in viewing it. Thanks!
