I found one reference to a Card Stewart in the history for Aaron Cookson. An image of that page is attached. Tough as nails. Had a house full of very nice kids. She was nice also. I don't know what happened to any of her children. The family moved out of state. The last time I saw any of the family was in 1955. I don't think her family approved of her husband. He was so funny. He told stories on himself, he was always the butt of his stories. When the Aunts came to visit they always visited her. When Aunt Matt, Aunt Cora and Aunt Fannie and Aunt Bertha came to our house, my mother always took them to visit Myrtle. I remember how pleased Myrtle was to have visitors. She was married to Bill Yenks. I'm not sure about the spelling. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was searching for Tom and Jim's grave and found Charles Manning's tomestone. Had the correct date of birth and death date as verified by his granddaughter. On the 1900 Stoddard Co., Mo. census Mattie, Cora, Bertha and Robert are children living at home, then Myrtle, granddaughter and then Louisa, daughter-in-law and then Hattie, granddaughter. Aunt Fannie, Mattie's older sister, said Myrtle's mother, Lucinda Johnson, died when Myrtle was a baby. Aunt Fannie lived to be in her late 90s and her mind was clear to the time she died. I've wondered if one of the 12 children that Martha bore could have died and Louisa was his wife. I neer remember hearing about another. But when I was young people did not talk about someone that died. Too painful I suppose. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm not sure who else Louisa could be. There were only two sons who could have been married. The third son of course died at age 14 in 1908. The only possible solution for the daughter in law named Louisa was Thomas's first wife Lucinda or Delia (James' wife) goes by Louisa (maybe a middle initial). We'd need to find census records with James and Delia together in 1900. Married in 1895, it would make sense for Thomas and Lucinda to have a daughter about Hattie's age. Kind of rules James and his family out. Unfortunately, my grandmother remembers very little about Mattie's family. What I have is a result of lots of collaboration and hours of hard work digging through whatever I can get my hands on. Up until your message, I thought that maybe Thomas had died and that's why Louisa (aka Lucinda) was living with a daughter in her husband's parents' home, but that theory now seems defunct. I, too, found the census record in Arkansas that you were talking about. I may be wrong but Charles Manning is buried in Woodruff Co. to my memory and McCrory cemetery sounds right for him too. At the very least, I know I have some Mannings buried in McCrory. I am wondering if several of the Stewart children moved to Arkansas at the same time and lived near one another. Seems too much of a coincidence. --Micah-- Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have the following: Cardinal M Stewart (b. Nov. 19, 1850; d. March 8, 1907) and Martha Elizabeth Cookston (Cookson) (b. June 17, 1853; d. April 3, 1907) were married Nov. 17, 1870 by Carroll Harty, Justice of the Peace and had eight children: Thomas A (b. 1873 - MO) Mary A (b. Nov 1874 - MO) James D. (b. 1877 - MO) Fannie L. (b. 1880 - MO) Cora (b. Aug 1883 - MO) Mattie (b. Feb 1886 - MO) Bertha (b. Nov. 1888 - MO) Robert C. (b. April 20, 1894 - MO) MARRIAGE INFO FOR THE CHILDREN: Thomas A. and Lucinda Johnson - Jan. 25, 1895 Mary A. and William Hatcher - Dec. 29, 1889 James D. and Delia Sisco (previously listed as Fiola...sorry) mariied Aug 8, 1897 Fannie L. and S.L. Harty married Jan. 1895. Mattie and Charles Manning (Bollinger Co.) Bertha possibly married an A. Williams?? still need more info. Robert C. died on Nov. 20, 1908 and is buried in Brown Church Cemetery in Stoddard Co., Missouri. I have more info than this but it's all on the computer and I'm typing this from the hard copies I have. Also, Martha Cookson was the daughter of Aaron "Cookston" Cookson and Mary Elizabeth Taylor. I have further information from collaboration with others that says Aaron "Cookston" Cookson is the son of Joseph Cookston and Christina Vandergriff, who was of Dutch descent. Cardinal's info is all on the computer and I will relay it as soon as possible. I have exact transcriptions on the marriage records (where they were married, who they married, who married them) for James, Mary, Fannie, and Thomas. If any one needs more info on the Mannings. They can contact me as well. Charles was the son of Lafayette Manning and Mariah Frances Sears and they lived in Bollinger Co. until somewhere before 1896 (their youngest was born in Arkansas). Mattie and Charles also lived in Arkansas in Jackson County, south of Newport (Cow Lake Township). I will post more as I have time...as I said, it's all in this computer and not on hard copies. Thanks! --Micah R. Allen-- great-great granddaughter of Mattie (Stewart) Manning. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I knew the 8 living with the exception of Robert that died as a young boy after getting kicked by a horse. I was told that Lucinda Johnson was a daughter of Letha and the mother of Myrtle. None of this verified. I was also told Tom married both Lucinda and Delia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
