    3. Depends on the year Butler or Stoddard county This snip is from an interested researcher in Stoddard county, but it does affect those researching in both Butler county and Stoddard counties <snip> 1892-1899 the post office for the town of Fisk, MO was on the east side of the St. Francis River, and therefore in Stoddard CO. However, residents of the town petitioned that the post office be moved to the west side of the river in Butler CO., and it was moved in 1899. The Stoddard CO. town that had formerly been known as Fisk became Poplin. It soon ceased to exist. <end snip> Thanks to LeAnn Kelley we have this information Mary Hudson [email protected] ô¿ô USGenWeb Counties I volunteer to CC Butler, Mississippi and Stoddard Missouri http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobutle2/index.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~momissis/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~mostodd2/index.html MY PROJECT Bye-Gone Towns http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mahudson/bygone/by-gonecomstates.htm My Personal Web Site http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/3597

    1. [MOSTODDA-L] New Ancestors series to air on PBS
    2. Deanna
    3. Received the following from the Johnson List Deanna New Ancestors series to air in June Date: Thursday, April 06, 2000 12:23 PM Ancestors, the highly successful PBS series, returns in June 2000 with a new format, thirteen new episodes shot on location around the world, and the most current information about the quest for family history. After the first series aired in 1997, viewers asked for a second series with more specific instruction about researching their roots. The new Ancestors series rises to the challenge with an exciting new emphasis: the world of records. The series highlights records that family historians use, such as newspapers, immigration records, military records, and the census. Each episode weaves dramatic personal stories of family history discovery with expert instruction from the nation's top genealogists and librarians. Seasoned genealogists will gain as much from these tips as those who have an interest in family history research but don't yet know where to begin. FGS and GenTech members who have seen sneak previews have received the new series with enthusiasm. 2. This is the obituary of my great grandmother. If there is anyone on this list that knew any of her descendants listed here, I'd love to hear from them. OBITUARY (2 Nov 1926; Bloomfield Vindicator) Our heavenly Father called from the home of Mr. John Riley, the beloved wife and mother, Mrs. Mary E. Riley. She was born July 5, 1860; departed this life October 26, 1926; age 66 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was married to John N. RILEY November 16, 1879, to this union was (sic) born nine children. Two preceded her in death. Seven are still living. They are Melvin RILEY, Minnie BBUSBY, Ivy CLODFELTER, are living near the home of the deceased; Dr. Ed RILEY, William R. RILEY, Jannie SCISM and Fred RILEY of Bakersfield, California. On account of sickness and other things it was not possible for the last four named to attend the funeral. Mrs. RILEY was a woman who was loved by all who knew her. She accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the M.E. church at an early age. Since then her life has been devoted to the Christ-like way. Her influence was for building up the Christian faith in her home and community as well as in the home where she was so highly held and loved. Funeral services were conducted at Fairview M. E. Church by Rev. Stanley in presence of many relatives and sorrowing friends. The body was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery. To the bereaved husband and children the community extends its sympathy."
