I am very excited about the new additions to our Stoddard Co. site this week. Thanks to Betty Kokal we now have a complete record of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery --over 900 names! Laura Horton has added the obiturary of John Martin to the early settlers file and some very interesting information to the migration file. New Queries: Carpenter, Ice-Martin Surnames: Gossage, Hart, Hill, Holder, Johnson, Pearson, Sinks, and Slayton. If you submitted the name CORTSON, please try adding it again -- we need an e-mail address. Bonds and Letters of Administration: AVRETT, Rosetta BEAN, S.C. BIRCHFIELD, Jeremiah CAMBELL, Sr., A.W. CRAVENS, John R. DOWDY, Richard FORD, I.N. GRAYAM, J.M. HARBIN, Jesse M. HORNER, J.H. HOWELL, Joseph C. (second page) JOHNSON, Elisha LEONARD, Joseph F. McNAIL, J.F. (second page) SIMMONS, James STAFFORD, L.M. SUMMERS, James C. WHITWELL, W.H. Thanks everyone who has helped out this week. If anyone has any questions or problems with the site, please let me know. Emily B. PINKERTON b: ca 1838 KY was married to an unknown KENNARD; named in her father's 1871 will, Emily KINNARD. Anyone researching this line? Thank you, Dianna German Anderson
could whomever submitted that link for "good civil war link with mention of Stoddard Co.", please send it again?------i've lost it. thanks so much........ Here is this what you wanted? The address is: http://www.missouri-scv.org/ Click on Neat Stuff about Confederate Missouri then Click on Stoddard County Memorial Cemetery.
Sue Thanks for the address. I just yesterday received my copy of "Stoddard Grays, Confederate Soldiers of Stoddard County Missouri, 1861-1865" The front cover shows the cemetery, so this website goes along quite well with to book. I knew that my great grandfather had 4 uncles in the Kirby family who served in the CSA but with this book I learned that my great grandfather Tankersley had two brothers and two uncles in the Babb family who were veterans of the CSA. The website allowed me to check to see if any of these uncles were in the cemetery. I am looking for any info at all, however insignificant it may seem on the following family of Bakers. This is one of my brick walls that I'm having a very hard time breaking through, but with such a common name I guess it happens. Anyway, the Bakers I'm looking for are: George Baker b: appx. 1813 in TN d: sometime between 1850-1870, but probably about 1860. He was married to Sarah (maiden name unknown). She was born appx. 1824 in Tennessee. I have no idea when she died or any data on their marriage. They are listed on the 1850 Census in Stoddard Co., but based on their children's birth data they had lived there 4-5 years at that time. I don't know where they were in 1860 (possibly Ark.), but on the 1870 Census Sarah is a widow living next door to one of her sons (Michael Baker) in Stoddard Co. Children: Michael b: abt 1842 in TN Jane b: abt. 1843 in TN John b: abt 1845 in TN Henry b: abt 1848 in MO Mary b: abt 1859 in MO There may have been other children between Henry and Mary, but I do not know. I am descended from the son, Michael Baker and he is the only one of the children I have additional data on. Michael Baker was married to Louisa (maiden name unknown) b: appx. 1846 in Missouri. It is likely they lived in Stoddard Co. when they married, but I can't find where they married or when. In the 1870 Census, Michael and Louisa are in Castor Township, Stoddard Co. Children: William Riley Baker b: Jan. 1867 in AR George Talbert Baker b: Jun. 21, 1869 in MO Andrew John Van Molly I don't know when or where any of the children other than William and George were born, but I do know that these two sons were they oldest children. As adults, most of these children lived back and forth between Stoddard Co. and Clay Co., Ark. plus William Riley was born in Ark., so their parents may have moved around a bit themselves. Either way, I haven't found much on them in either location. If anything here rings a bell or seems familiar, I'd certainly love to hear from you. Thanks, Randall Baker

Larry, This site is VERY NICE. Great pictures. Are you the Larry in the pictures. I saw this memorial in middle of May 1999, while many stones were up, many were there to be erected. The website shows the beauty and reverence of the memorial. I am impressed by both the memorial and the site. The edge of my ancestors plot shows in one of the pictures, and I had Liley Monument do some work for me on the gravestones in the plot. I am trying to place you Larry. Have I written you? when and about what, I can't remember. Thanks for sharing this site. There apparently was more than one Martindale who died in that timeframe and left children completely orphaned... The 1870 census of Bollinger County Mo lists: Levi Martindale 22 Eva Martindale 23 Nancy Martindale 3 William Martindale 1 Then, by 1880, the family was fragmented: 1880 Census Information for Isaac Revelle: E.D. 59, St. Michael Township, Madison County, Missouri, House number 9/9, Page number 1 Names Rel. My best guess about why Nancy Martindale might have been taken in by Isaac Revelle has to do with the Eva (Revelle) Martindale part of the quote, and I don't know how that relationship plays out. Nancy Martindale married Bart Tripp. She is buried in Snowdenville Cemetery, Madison County, MO. 21-OCT-1866 19-MAY-1944 Here is another: 1880 Census Information for James Revelle: E.D. 8, Liberty Township, Bollinger County, Missouri, House number 199/199, Page number 21 Names Rel. Last night I was reading an article in our Rural MO Electric monthly news about a Martin family and a misplaced Tombstone. You may have already heard of this, as I picked up part of the story earlier when the Historical Society _ Trish Erzfeld, was looking for help in learning about this tombstone. The lost tombstone for baby James W. (infant) son of Ira and Mary Martin, born Oct 20 1907 The tombstone was sold with other things to a Texas antique dealer, by a man from Perryville county MO. The dealer, Ned Coleman, contacted the Perryville Historical Society and returned the stone to them. They (Perryville Historical Society) has since learned, through much work with the Internet and Hard copies of Historical records, located the grave of James W. martin, buried in Enon Cemetery in Carroll County in the same plot with his grandparents. Recently the MOGS, had an article of interest, regarding the Internet, and the Paper records. I think this is a perfect example of how much we can find quickly on the Internet, AND how IMPORTANT the Genealogy and Historical Societies are. Without the Genealogy and Historical Societies, we would not have the information we have for the Internet research. Without the Internet, we would not have access as quickly to these records. I suggest if you do not belong to a Genealogy or Historical Society, you strongly think about joining at least ONE, to show support of their work. The above statement is only my opinion. I have gained much from reading the material printed by these organizations. Have a good day.
