I've already ordered the book and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. Sam Young was one of the 15th Ward political leaders from what I've read and helped get state Sen. Thomas "Snake" Kinney elected in 1904. Sam also assisted Snake's brother, Michael Kinney, who would also be elected state Senator and who served practically forever--until the late 1960's. He was definitely "in" with the Irish political machine of the time, but so was Fred Mohrle. It was their falling out that continued a long-standing argument that originally began over gambling at racetracks. In the end, at least 4 other people were dead from "gang violence" and Marie Moehrle/Mohrle [Fred's widow] tried--unsuccessfully--to commit suicide. The story of the feud made national headlines--from The New York Times to The Los Angeles Times and in many states' newspapers in between. And who says history is dull?
