I just noticed the similarity in the names while reading the book, "Egan's Rats," and thought I'd post the info just in case somebody was looking for this young man. The book does go on to say that "the youthful Scheel was a promising student and a member of one of the most prominent families in BELLEVILLE, Illinois." [Waugh, Egan's Rats. p. 59] There is quite a bit more on the circumstances surrounding the shooting in the book, in case anyone is interested.
