    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AStanaland Surnames: Washburn, Madden, Cavanaugh, Stillman, Moorman, Morman, Merman, Davidson, Franke, McLain Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.stlouis/10021/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can anyone help identify this couple, John J. WASHBURN and Louisa Jane MADDEN who married July 7, 1864 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri ....filed in Sept 1864. Record states both were "of" Illinois. Regardless of where their family lines might have originally settled (NY, VA, etc.), they could be from a generation that settled in any of the states / areas of the country where KY, IL, TN, MO and even AR are very close ....near and along the Mississippi River >From Ancestry.com's database Missouri Marriage Records 1805-2002 with actual record book images. Name: Mr John J Washburn Marriage Date: 7 Jul 1864 Marriage County: Cape Girardeau Spouse Name: Miss Louisa Jane MADDEN Could this couple have gone to Springfield, Greene Co MO? Did John J. WASHBURN die due to Civil War and then Louisa stayed in Springfield MO with her 5 year old son Robert E. WASHBURN, both living in the household of Martha KING and Martha's son, Marshall GASSAWAY? Could that Louisa in Springfield ...who is the mother of my great grandfather Robert E. WASHBURN b 1864-65 Springfield, MO ...be the same Louisa Jane MADDEN? Robert E. WASHBURN was apparently still in Springfield MO in 1885 and perhaps also in 1888 ...as he married 1885 there to Anna MOORMAN (shown in marriage record transcribed as MERMAN)....and they divorced there July 1888, Greene Co records. In the St Louis MO City Directory 1889-90, Robert has moved to St Louis where he is in the Music business, and living in his residence is Louisa DAVIDSON, widow of Samuel. I find an 1898 death record for Louisa / Leuiza DAVIDSON that might be my Louisa, saying she was born ...not in MO or IL ...but in TN, and had lived in St Louis 18 years, meaning she would have come there about 1880. Robert marries a 2nd time Dec 24 1896 in St Louis to Mary Elizabeth CAVANAUGH. (Her mother was Mary Ellen STILLMAN, father John Joseph CAVANAUGH.) At the time of Robert E. WASHBURN's sudden death in October 1910, they are living on Natural Bridge Road. He is buried in St Peters. Mary Elizabeth Washburn never remarried and died 1963 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lucas-Hunt Road. Robert and Mary made their home in St Louis where Mary was born and Robert moved about 1888. They were both involved in music. Robert was a composer of waltzes, marches, songs of the era (1885-1910), music teacher of several instruments including piano, mandolin and more, and had a family band. Mary Elizabeth CAVANAUGH Washburn, b 1878, was a singer and a newspaper columist expressed his sympathy at her 1963 death, mentioning her beautiful voice. They had 2 sons and a daughter. The daughter died 1929 and their 2nd son John Lewis married a Ruth FRANKE, but had no children. Their firstborn son is my grandfather, Robert E. L. WASHBURN born Nov 1897 St Louis, married 1919 Newport, Jackson Co, Arkansas to Audrey McLAIN, b 1900 Newport, Jackson Co, AR. No known male WASHBURNs in my line, so can't participate in the Ydna project. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
