[btw, love that moniker ;)] I found the following information. 1880 Census of Pern, LaSalle County, IL; p. 25, Sup'r Dist. #4; E. D. 86; date: 11 June 1880. DORNBUSH Henry, age 54; stourt [exactly what it says] brick maker; born: Prussia Anna, age 40; keeping house; born: Wurttemburg; Fredrick, age 25; laborer; born: Missouri; Henry, age 15; born: Illinois; Katherine, age 13; born: Illinois; Joseph, age 11; born: Illinois; Jacob, age 6; born: Illinois; and Anna, age 4; born: Illinois. Is this the family you're looking for? I find no record for Frederick/Friedrich Dornbusch's birth in St. Louis. It's entirely possible that the family came to the U. S. through New Orleans. Many, many Germans bypassed the East Coast and came through New Orleans [that would also include my own German family] because from there, they could take a boat to St. Louis up the Mississippi. It was cheaper than by going overland from say, New York. Can you tell me: were they Catholic or Protestant? That would make a difference if I were to search elsewhere. Let me know.
