    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jassyca Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.stlouis/9982.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I checked the "St. Louis City Death Records, 1850-1908" database at Ancestry.com, no S., Sam or Samuel Rose was listed for 1907. I also check the obituary index for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/obit.htm Again, no S., Sam or Samuel Rose. What you might do, however, is send the folks at the St. Louis Public Library (who are the ones who put together the obituary list) an email and ask if they would send you a copy of the full page of obituaries for November the 24th and 25th. Sometimes, the microfilms aren't in the best of shape so there's always the possibility that someone might have mis-read the surname. Copies only cost something like 25 cents plus a dollar for postage. Purty-cheap! But with him missing from both of those, I think that's a pretty weak possibility. So he might have been in some other part of the state when he died and the body sent back to St. Louis for burial. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/#search When I entered the name "Rose" and changed the area to search to "St. Louis City", I didn't see any good possibilities. If you leave the area to search as "all counties", there are 677 hits. That many hits, I decided not to go through them. (Hope you find him!) If you don't find anything with the Missouri state archive's birth-death records, you could try getting in touch with the church associated with the cemetery and asking for a copy of the burial record. That might have some extra info in it, like where he died. You never know. To move a body from one cemetery to another, you have to clear it with the city's health department first. If those old records still exist, I would imagine that they were probably sent to the state archives. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/Default.asp Oh, and just incase, I checked the pre-1916 death index for Illinois (since Illinois would've been just a short trip across the river). http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/deathsrch.html He's not there. Hope that helped!! Good luck with your search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
