Author: dvernon41 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.stlouis/10376.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: St Louis City and St Louis County have many sources for genealogy research. Rootsweb has three mailing lists, 2 for St Louis County and 1 for St Louis City Metro. The mailing lists have many knowledgable researchers that can help answer questions. The Genealogy in St Louis website is a great place to start to become familiar with the available resources (http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/). The St Louis County Library has a very good Special Collections section and also a newspaper microfilm archive dating back to the 1840's to current day. You can make research requests via email or US Mail. Website is (http://www.slcl.org/branches/hq/sc/). The St Louis Public Library has very good genealogy resources. They will accept genealogy requests by email or US Mail. The main library, where the genealogy resources are housed, recently has closed for a 2 year renovation. However, they hope to begin, again, accepting email requests in Fall 2010. Website is (http://www.slpl.org/slpl/library/article240165059.asp). The Missouri State Archives has some very useful online databases, especially the online death certificates. You can search, view and print death certificates for 1910 to 1959. Each year an additional year is added to the database. Website is (http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/ordb.asp). If your research subjects are Catholic the St Louis Catholic Archdiocese has an online burial database. Website is (http://search.stlcathcem.org/default.aspx). If you post specific questions and information on the Rootsweb mailing lists for St Louis there are many knowledgable researchers who can assist you.
