My grandfather grew up on "Arsenal Island" in the Mississippi just downstream from the end of Arsenal street in St Louis. It appears that the island eroded away and reformed several times. My grandfather told me he used to take a motor boat from Arsenal Island across to St Louis to attend grade school (early 1920's). He also said he delivered moonshine on the way to school.
