In his possession was a business card for "Hip's Fashion Shop 707 Pine Street. The name O.J. Hippenmeyer is printed on the bottom left corner. The card has a phone number that I believe is from the 1920's. It reads Garfield 0201. I have been trying to trace any relative related to the Hippenmeiers(Hippenmeyers) to no avail. All the Hippenmeiers I know are related to me, live here in FL. I know thru census records that Otto Hippenmeyer was a haberdasher on the 1920 census. His father was Conrad Hippenmeyer, with a son Harry and a daughter Edna. Even with this info, I have not been able to find the connection to my family. I have official documents where the family's last name was spelled both ways. I don't quite understand how that could be, but that's going off on another tangent. I would love to find and talk to any living relative of Otto, to see if we might be related. Why else would my gr! gr uncle have Otto's business card? I want to think that Otto was a brother of my gr gr grandfather John Jacob Hippenmeier. I also have correspondence from a gr gr gr gr aunt(to me), gr gr aunt (to Paul) Caroline Freuler Hippenmeier who lived in the Canton Glarus, Switz. My gr gr grandfather was from Gottlieb Thuragau, Switz. I don't know if that helps. Any info on anything would help. There are so many Hippenmeiers and Hippenmeyers on the genealogy sites that it makes me dizzy. Thank you for any help. 3. Hi, I really shouldn't jump in here after that excellent post by my good friend, Maureen, because I have very sparse info for you. I went to Washington University with one Tom Hippenmeyer in 1950 who dated a friend of mine. I believe he lived later in life in California. He had a cousin, Bill Beardsley, who attended Westminster College in the same time period. I remember an Otto Hippenmeyer who was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Alhambra Grotto in the 30's and 40's. The Grotto is no longer active. Otto might have been a member of Meridian Lodge which is located: 4500 Donovan Ave St Louis, MO 63109 (314) 353-7705 If Otto wasn't a member there perhaps they can guide you to the correct Lodge. I think Bill is still living, and his mother might have been Edna Hippenmeyer. Tom's father might have been Harry. Again, a long time ago and I didn't know them that well.
