Hi Bobbie, I was at the Headquarters doing some research and overheard a group of people (employees? I don't know) talking about the microfilms there and at the local LDS genealogy church. You probably know that the LDS is scanning their microfilm records and putting them online. Eventually the microfilm machines will not be needed, so they are not repairing theirs and have started to remove them as they break down. Some of their facilities have closed due to decreased usage as more and more people go online at home. As technology advances things change, sometimes not to our liking. The county library was also doing inventory of the VCR tapes they have; they will be put out for sale (the employees didn't know when) to the public. DVDs are their replacements. I remember when they got rid of their stereo records and cassette tapes too. I was so sad at the time as I couldn't afford a CD player. If this will make you feel a little better, I volunteer to do lookups for you when I go to the headquarters (I try to go every other week). Just be sure to email me directly as sometimes I get overwhelmed with email and delete anything that isn't personal, so I might miss your request if you put it on the list.
