WASHBURN b 1864 MO--d 1910 in St. Louis (Robert Edward Lee Washburn) I am searching for info re Thomas---and a Richard WASHBURN. In particular, THOMAS J. WASHBURN and RICHARD C. WASHBURN, in business in St. Joseph, MO late 1800s. They were in the music business---the same profession as my Robert E. WASHBURN in St. Louis from about 1886-1910--and I think there was a family relationship. Robert E. WASHBURN lived in Green County, Springfield---from at least 1870 and had a 1st married in 1885 to an ANNIE MORMAN in Springfield. They divorced in 1888 according to an online Green County record. He was at the same time, writing and publishing his music in St. Louis, MO. Below are records I have collected, listed in St. Joseph City Directory online records . . . THOMAS J. WASHBURN--AND RICHARD C. WASHBURN . . . . .I have collected records from city directories for several Washburns, including Thomas and Richard who seem to have worked together---in a music type business. RICHARD C. WASHBURN, T. J. WASHBURN, clerk r. 1018 Ridenbaugh Saint Joseph MO --1887 THOMAS J. WASHBURN pianos, organs and musical merchandise 603 Felix r. 823 Charles Saint Joseph MO --1887 THOMAS J. I wonder if they were related to a Robert E. WASHBURN born 1864/65 in Missouri, who by about 1886, certainly by 1890, was in the music business in St. Louis---composing and publishing his own music and teaching. This Robert E. WASHBURN's parents are unknown---except that his mother was very likely a Lulu or Louisa, born about 1846---possibly born CORN (spelling?). A 5yr. old Robert WASHBURN and mother Louisa, 24, were living in Springfield, Green, MO on the 1870 census---and I think this could be my Robert E. WASHBURN, b 1864. Unable to track Louisa WASHBURN (perhaps she died?) I wonder who raised my Robert E. WASHBURN---and who might have been able to provide for him a music background / education that led him to choose his career in music. More on Robert WASHBURN: In 1885, he had a 1st marriage to an Annie MORMAN in Springfield, Green, MO. (and 1910 census--married then to Mary E. Cavanaugh-- in St. Louis shows 2 marriages.). I found a divorce record for Annie and Robert in 1888, also in Springfield, Green Co., MO. I have music written and published by him in St. Louis in this time period, so he / they might have been living in St. Louis--or he was traveling back and forth. There is another possibility for Robert on the 1880 census, living and working as a farm hand on the farm of Jacob BRADBURY in Jasper County----actually the county my "family lore "gives as Robert's birthplace (Carthage, MO).I have Robert and his family by his 2nd wife on the 1900 and 1910 census in St. Louis, MO. Robert E. WASHBURN, Mary E.(Cavanaugh), children--Robert E., b 1897, John L. born 1901, Mary E. born 1902. Robert the father died at his home on Natural Bridge Road in October 1910 and is buried in an unmarked common grave in St. Peter's Cem. The rest of the family is buried in Mem. Park.
