I'm trying to trace all his siblings and their descendants as far as I can. I found Josephine Amanada Riley mentioned as a daughter of Josephine Adeline Benoist and James Riley in a book (written in French!) called Historie Des Grandes Familes Francaises Du Canada. I copied the part about the Benoists into the google translator and got a pretty good idea of what it said. I also found Isabelle's will (after my first email to you) at www.sos.mo.gov/archives/stlprobate/. (St. Louis has great online resources!) Her name is Mary Isabelle so she's listed as Mary I. Riley. She died 23 Dec 1881. Josephine Duhring is mentioned - already deceased- as Isabelle's sister. Your g-g-grandfather William is also mentioned - his whereabouts were unknown by his father, James. I did not find her in the 1850 census either, but I got her approximate birthdate from census and cemetery records. She died in 1872 and she is listed as age 26 in the cemetery records. I have more info on the Benoists - from St. Louis and also from Louisiana. Did you know that the writer, Kate Chopin is related to the Benoists through marriage? I got alot of info about the Louisiana Benoists from her biographies. Thanks for the info on William Riley - I had no idea how to find him or his descendents. Please email me directly at rosemori@adelphia.net. I would love to share more info with you. Rose
