My Hollocher family married into the Benoist family. I guess you know Oakland House (near Hampton and Gravois) is the homestead of the Benoist family. (It is open for tours and special events.) I recently came into possession of the crucifix owned by the Benoist family and brought to America from France. It was used by Father DeSmet (a Jesuit priest) to say Mass at the Benoist home when he came back to St. Louis after preaching to the Native Americans in the western territory.
