He was a Private in Company I commanded by Capt. William L. BARNUM in the 11th Regiment of Missouri Inf. Vols. from 1861-1864. That while in the service, he was wounded in the left ankle by an discharged from the gun. The effects of which wound left him lame. He died Feb. 23, 1917 in the Soldiers & Sailors Home in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. He was buried in Dunkard Cemetery, Concord Township, Adams County, Illinois. He was married at least 3 known times. The first wife was Elizabeth DAUGHERTY KILES on Oct. 27, 1864 in Adams Co. IL. She was born in KY (Does any one know when & where she was born?) She may have been related to other DAUGHERTY's living in Clayton, IL. Jacob & Elizabeth CAIN lived in Clayton, Concord Township, Adams County, IL. They had 3 known sons: John William born abt. Nov. 1865 in IL, George Washington born Nov 23, 1867 in Brown Co. IL., & James Henry born abt. Oct or Dec.1869. Jacob's wife Elizabeth died March 24, 1872. (Does any one know where she died & where she was buried?) Jacob's second wife was Sarah M. VANCE (unknown if surname was maiden name) born abt. 1854 Tennessee. Jacob and Sarah were married Aug 18, 1873 in Brown County, IL. They had one known child, Jennie Oleana born Oct. 12, 1874. Jacob's wife Sarah died March 22, 1878 in Mounds Station, Brown County, Illinois. She was at Mounds Cemetery, Timewell, Brown County, Illinois. (Does any one have more data on Sarah?) Jacob's third wife was Nancy SMITH (unknown of surname was her married name) According to Jacob's Civil War Pension records they were married in Maries County, Missouri in June 1890. Information on Jacob's known children: John William CAIN lived in the St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri area (Independent City) on 4150 Manchester Ave. at least from 1900 to 1930. They lived with a PULLMAN PUHLMAN Family. He was married to Emma C. ____ They had 2 known children (only the son lived to adulthood), Ruth born July 1899 in MO. (according to 1900 census) Ralph W. born abt.1903 in Mo. John was a Letter Carrier for the Post Office at least during the years 1910 to 1930. George Washington CAIN was born Nov. 23, 1867 in Brown Co. IL. He died March 29, 1954 in Quincy, IL. His body was buried in Mounds Cemetery, Timewell, Brown Co. IL. He married Susie M. BRATTON. Susie was born 1892 & she died in 1962. They had 2 known children; Francis W. or S. born in 1905 in IL. and died 1968, and Marion C. born abt. 1913 in IL and died possibly abt.1929. All are buried in Mounds Cemetery. James Henry was born in 1969 possibly either in Oct or Dec. He died Feb., 7, 1931 in Mt Sterling, Brown County, Illinois. He married Eulalia McCORMICK. She was born April 1869 in IL. & died Jan., 10, 1924 in Quincy, IL. They lived in St. Louis in 1900 but most of their married life they lived in Mt. Sterling, Brown County, Illinois. They are buried in Mt. Sterling City, Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, Brown County, IL. They may have adopted or at least raised Enos Ramson GILKER (1913-1967) who was a nephew of Eulalia. Her sister was Ethel "Della" McCORMICK GILKER (1883-1963). Jennie Olene CAIN born Oct. 12, 1874 in Illinois. She died _____ 1908 ( Does any one know where & exact date?)
