Griffin in the 1910 Census living at 3542 Pine Street. He is a widowed lodger, age 53, b. MA, and he is a waiter at a club. Perhaps I can answer your first question. The two girls may both have been placed in the orphanage as "half orphans". This term meant that they had one living parent who could not care for them. Remember that there were no social services then. If there were no relatives who could help the father, then he would have no other choice. I do not find him in the 1920 Census.
