The reason I ask is in the case of Frank Schlemmer, musician,who is in the 1860 census with wife Elisa and daughter Josephine. A Frank Schlemmer is listed as a private in Company D, MO 2nd cavalry (Union). A Francis Schlemmer is listed as a 1 Colonel Musician with the 17th MO Infantry (Union). Frank Schlemmer is listed in the death registry as dying 5 AUG 1866. Elizabeth Schlemmer is listed as applying for a civil war widow pension. Input? thanks, Fred
