My Fred Wenzel immigrated from Vienna, Austria in the 1880s. He left Austria to avoid inscription in the Prussian Army. Family lore states he went over the Italian Alps, gained empolyment on a freighter in Africa, and sailed around the world to earn his way into the U.S. He and his wife, Magdalena Heinz, lived in St. Louis during the St. Louis Expedition of 1903. My great uncle was born there. After the fair, they returned to Dubuque, IA., where my grandmother and the rest of the children were born. Would this help you in any way? Sincerely, Cindy Nielsen
