How did you find out how your ancestor came back from California? Are there records somewhere of those ships that left California and headed to Panama? Or would I have better luck trying to find some record of boats from New Orleans to St. Louis? Thanks!! As far as the mode of travel - I marvel at the places they went and how they got there. My ancestor was born in VA, married in New York, first child in Missouri, married again in Illinois, overland to CA, had two more children, back to Missouri, where she settled. She saw much more of the U. S. than I have!!
