Author: JohnNewmark18 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.stlouis/10431.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There is no Matt(hew) Keefe in the St. Louis Post Dispatch obituary index: http://www.slpl.org/slpl/gateways/article240117800.asp (the search covers 1880-1930, 1942-1945, 1960-1966, and 1992-2009 There is also a Matthew Keefe who was living in Alton, IL, but died in St. Louis, MO, in 1921, whose death certificate can be found at http://sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/#search He's listed as single, though. This doesn't fit your facts, unless the two for some reason separated/divorced. The only reference to a Matt(hew) Keefe I found in the 1874-1922 Post Dispatch archives available from the SLCL.org website was a 1904 article that mentioned a minstrel singer named Matt Keefe. [I did find a Jennie Keefe in both the death certificates and obituaries for Feb 1920, but she was married to a David Keefe according to the death certificate.] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He appears on the 1910 Fed Census with his wife Jennie at 3706 Washington Blvd. (Her occupation described "Boarding House" "Emp"). I have identified them still in Washington Blvd in 1914 with the arrival of nephews from Ireland. However, in the 1920 census, Jennie is described as "widow" and Matt/Matthew is not listed. If it is not possible to do an obituary lookup, could anyone suggest any other avenues? Regards Kevin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you'd like to provide me with your postal mailing address (contact me at dpn@mohistory.org), I can send you photocopies of these death notices. Also, the Missouri History Museum's Genealogy and Local History Index -- http://genealogy.mohistory.org/ -- includes references to items relating to some of these Gass individuals. The payment feature of the Genealogy and Local History Index may not accept international credit cards, so contact me if you have problems with paying for photocopies of these items (dpn@mohistory.org). Lastly, you may also want to consult our Genealogy Links page: http://www.mohistory.org/lrc/family-history/genealogy-links. For example, among the links on this page is a link to the St. Louis Catholic cemeteries burials database -- http://search.stlcathcem.org/default.aspx -- which includes references to Albert and Joseph Gass. Turns out in the site "Family History 101" (County History section) "by 1852 the expansion of the city westward caused the Legislature to create the 2nd Municipality" which was dissolved by the Amended Charter of 1855 (p 196, sec 13--also GoogleBooks) and brought the Bremen, Florence & Highlands areas into the City. Could someone explain to me what that was?? I found County Court records dated 1852 for my relative David P. Hull. I found this information on Google Books. David P. Hull was appointed to the first Board of Trustees for this municipality--"And the Court hereby appoint the following persons to constitute and be the first Board of Trustees of said Municipality, to wit: David P. Hull, etc." Were these people trying to create a new city inside of St. Louis or was this the creation of St. Louis county??? Thanks for any help. Fox Probasco( born 1844-1925) she had a daughter named Laura Menge who is my great grandmother they both lived in St. Louis, Missouri but I can not find Laura Menge Lewis blood (born 1865-1942 in MO) father. I found her death record(at Missouri Digital Heritage Death Records)for her father it has ???? Menge. Laura's name on census records is listed as Laura Probasco. I don't know if the man Hiram Probasco that married Elizabeth Fox adopted Laura or that is how they did it back then. Siblings to Laura was Bernard and Charles, Andrew and more but I don't have that info with me right now. I have found a Charles Menge on I think a Pennslyvania census, but not on a MO. I was looking on Pennslyvania census because Laura says on census records that her father was born in Pennslyvania. If you know more about the Menge family in St. Louis. Mo or in Pennsylvania please let me know you can e-mail georgebouse@hotmail.com Thank You Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Larry my dad was born in 1944 in Illinois. Story has it my Grandma Helen Lively was in St Louis staying with her older sister. My Grandma was only about 16 years old. She met a man older then her, he might of been married. They were together a couple times. She went back home to Tamaroa Illinois and had the baby. The only thing she ever said was his name was Frank Walter. I believe Frank Walter might of been friends with an Edgar Maynard.
