See your local reference librarian. Some libraries charge their patrons but mine doesn't yet.

I cannot even find out if the records are still in the building, since the building is closed. Bad luck all around. I wish I had better news, as this funeral home has put away my family for 3 generations. Valerie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WMB.2ACE/4552.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Michele, The story we were told was that David or Theobald which was his name on his Baptisim record, was tha he never married, and that he got killed and thrown in the Mississippi River there in St Louis he was some kind of courrier for a jewelry firm. He was on the 1900 census in St. Louis living with my grandfather Foster and his sister Maggie Herzog, Foster. His age was 30. I found a David Herzog listed with the Lye family as a border in 1910 in the city of St. Louis in the 7 ward ( parted?) age 36 which couldn't be right, he would be more like 40. I have a death certificate for a David (Dave) Herzog Found floating in the mississippi River in 1917, age 45, he was a laborer at a flour mill in 1910 St. Louis Mo. So if he was married it would be sometime between 1910 and 1917. So i still have some research to do. Thanks agaim Michele. Dorothy Foster, Cooper

Surnames: Grant Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4550 Message Board Post: Could someone look up a newspaper article regarding the drowning of Capt. William Grant on the Mississippi River. He was drowned 31 Aug 1864, so the article would probably be in the 1 Sep 1864 newspaper in St. Louis. He was carrying the payroll for his troops, riding on the Steamer Burlington, down the Mississippi River from St. Louis to ?. Upon his death, he was discharged in Alton, Madison Co., Illinois. He had been Captain of Co. A, 14th U.S. Heavy Artillery Colored. Would like to find out what happened--only have the story told later by his son who was about 9 years old at the time of his father's drowning. William Grant's son, William Grant (also) was supposedly with him and survived. The story was told that after the investigation, the Steamer Burlington was burned by the government. Any help on this would really be appreciated!!! Thank you.

Surnames: Grant, Haley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4549 Message Board Post: Does anyone know if there are any military records from Jefferson Barracks? My GR GR grandfather, Capt. William Grant, was stationed there at the time of his death in 1864, I believe. (A son was born there 2 Sep 1854.) He was on the Steamer Burlington, leaving St. Louis, with the payroll for his troops when he was overtaken by thieves and killed and thrown overboard, or thrown overboard and drowned in the Mississippi River (this is the story one of his sons told who was about 9 years old at the time). This drowning occurred 31 Aug 1864. I have his military records from when he first went into the U.S. service in Lowell, Massachusetts on 3 Jan 1838. It only gave his age and that he was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am hoping there are some records from Jefferson Barracks which might give a birth date, at least, so I can research his family in Scotland. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
