I doubt Elizabeth would have sent a baby of hers back to the old country. And if she had done so, being a widow and needing to work to support herself, why not go back to Germany with her. And why would Maria carry the surname of Elizabeth's second husband and not her own father? However, I have no evidence of Maria's death either. Can you tell me anything more about your Maria or her family?

Are there any other Lanes buried there? The 1930 census shows a William H Lane family living in St. Francois County. This William's father was born in Tennessee. Maybe they were married in Tennessee because William had relatives there. Any possiblity that they were married on a river boat and the marriage was recorded at the place where the boat was normally docked. How do you know that they lived and died in St. Louis? Looked at the index for 1930 and there are no William W. Lanes in St. Louis. Of the two without middle initials, they seem to be too young-one is 24 and the other is 27. Have you found William on any of the censuses? Georgia

A couple of nights ago, I discovered a letter that Robert had written to my G-Grandmother while he was in Officer's Training School at Camp Doniphan, prior to deploying to "foreign soil". The time frames fit with the letter. The dates and address will help me immensely with both the census progress and trying to find a service record. I know most of them went up in flames at St. Louis, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that something may have survived. Can you tell me where you found this information? I have a few more WWI service members that I'd like to find infomation on. Thank you so much! Anita 1727062218@earthlink.net
