For out-of-state folk, like myself; you can still keep up on back-home news using the following web site: www.usnpl.com Click on "Missouri", scroll down to "St. Louis" and choose "St. Louis Post-Dispatch". You can read today's article about White Castle. You can also go to Google (images), type in "White Castle", and take a stroll down memory lane. Sandra in Oregon

Parents were also born in GErmany. Albert and wife's mother tongue is German. They are in ED 506, p. 5B, 14 Ward in the City of St. Louis, MO, reel 1236. You can get a copy of the census from the library I think.

The William Koenig, baker,is for sure the one Albert is talking about in his letter. His is working in a bakery and talks about the German Pretzeln and Torten. The Albert you found in the 1930 census seems to be also the one I am looking for. Did the census say anything about where they were born? Probably Germany. I will contact the St Library too. Thank you Angie

He is a printer and lives at 2918 Magnolia Street. He immigrated in 1923 as did Elsie. Albert was 27 when he first married and Elsie was 25. They have no children listed with them. I found a William Koenig who was a baker living at 4101 North 20th St. but no Albert living with him in 1930. I found two Alberts on the SS death index both of whom got there SS numbers in Missouri. One was born 28 Dec. 1898, died July 1966 in East ST. Louis, Claire County, Illinois and the other was born 20 April 1899 and died April 1969, with the last residence being in St. Louis, Missouri. There is an Elsie Koenig on the SS death index, b. 4 May 1901, died July 1981 but not residence given. SS # issued in Missouri. You might want to try the St. Louis Public Library to see if they have anything of interest. They have marriage indices if Elsie and Albert got married in St. Louis. http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm You can get a death record from the State of Missouri for anyone who died in Missouri. Cost is $10.00: http://www.health.state.mo.us/

Contacted local libraries to see if they have death notices or obits for the people? You might want to read a book such as Val Greenwood's one on doing American Research or join a local genealogy society. It appears that you only have other people's information as a source. You can email them at the following-see item # 13. If you are requesting a look up in the city directories and a marriage look up, do them on separate emails. http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm St. Louis County Library has index to some naturalization papers: http://www.slcl.org/slcl/sc/nat/nat-project.htm If the family is Catholic, the St. Louis church records are on microfilm at the County library as well as through the Mormon church. You would have to know what parish his wife was in. You might want to check the city directories for her maiden name also.
