    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Soraghan, Cahill, Dooley, McDonough, O'Brien, Johnson, Woods, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4707 Message Board Post: TURNKEY PETER SORAGHAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS. --Came to City Thirty-Five Years Ago and Spent Many Years on Police Department - Leaves Family.-- Peter Soraghan, 70 years old, former member of the Police Department, died early yesterday morning at his home, No. 2937 Thomas Street, of senility. Soraghan was born in County Cavan, Ireland. He came to St. Louis about thirty-five years ago. His first position was with the Planters Hotel, but later he became a policeman. After a number of years service for the city Soraghan moved to Morgan County, Missouri, where he engaged in farming and cattle raising. Nine years ago he returned to St. Louis and again entered the Police Department as turnkey at the Ninth District Station. He held this position until a year ago, when he was compelled to retire because of ill health. Soraghan leaves a widow, Catherine Soraghan (nee Cahill), and the following children: Mrs. W. P. Dooley, Mrs. Norah McDonough, Mrs. William O'Brien, Mrs. John A. Johnson, Doctor J. T. Soraghan, Delia F. Soraghan, Annie M. Soraghan and Peter Soraghan, who is the leading man under Al Woods. The funeral will take place from the family residence Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock and later from St. Bridgt's Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Reverend Father Fenton will officiate. Note: The above obituary came to me as an undated newspaper clipping. The Calvary Cemetery listing which is online shows burial date for Peter Soraghan of January 17, 1905. From online family trees, I believe his actual date of death was January 14, 1905, and his date of birth was Oct. 17, 1833.

Many circa 1850's and 1860's St. Louis catholic germans from this area...Some may have attended the old St. Joseph German Church... Today called Shrine of St. Joseph. Another good bet would be Holy Trinity Church.
