It was established in 1921 and is an open, active, non-denominational cemetery. I don't know what you mean by a census - I assume you are asking if there are records for the cemetery. I have some records and have found these Wiese family members: I found a 74 year old Fred Wiese who died in Feb. of 1960 there. I found a 58 yr. old Dorothy Wiese who died in Jan of 1973, 51 year old John Budde Weise buried 14 July 1979, 63 year old Clara Wiese buried 4 Nov. 1954.Found no WEISE burials in Lakewood.

The following is from the St. Louis Post Dispatch obituary index and I can not find his name listed: http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/ob1898b.htm Was he related to a Bertrand Nicolas? I found Bertrand Nicolas and his family: wife, Julia and son, George listed in the St. Louis 1900 census. It showed that Bertrand was born in France and born around April 1944. Next time I go to the library, I will check the 1898 death index. Since the library does not list him under the obituary index then I am almost sure I will not find anything there. I hope this helps. There is St. Louis City and St. Louis County. St. Louis is now and especially in the 1800's referred to as "The Independent County of The City of St. Louis". Most people who aren't affiliated with St. Louis don't understand this concept. So, if you want any information after say 1930 you need to look in both St. Louis City and St. Louis County records. Before that all records pertain to St. Louis "City".

I must have seen it on Ancestry but I will check with the St. Louis Library as well. Arthur's daughter, Mary, was buried in Calvary Cemetery (5 June 1874) and so is one of his grandchildren (a child of Thomas Haggerty.) Arthur's wife, son and daughter did appear in the 1880 St Louis census. His son James married in 1881 and and by 1883 the family had moved to Chicago. I have gone through the 1870 census more than once many years ago but was unable to find Arthur. I will give it another try. This family did seem to move around a lot just like your family. They came over from Ireland, met in Boston and married and then took a covered wagon to Milwaukee and lived there a short time. Their son James was born there. Then they moved to Chicago and lived there about 10 years and then on to St. Louis. They were in the 1860 St. Louis census. I figured they were just trying to find a place to make a living. What hard times. Well Georgia, I do thank you for all your help. I will follow up on the death certificate. I would love to find out more about Arthur. I appreciate your help. Martha Parker

The records on Ancestry are only indexed from 1850 to 1901 unless they have updated it from the St. Louis Gen. Society. The St. Louis Gen. Society recently finished indexing through 1908 and has a CD out for about $30-$35.00 http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm You can email a request for a copy of the death record from the library. Cost is $0.25 per copy and $1.00 postage. Very limited information on these and sometimes, very hard to read. http://www.stlgs.org/deathrecords.shtml I think the library will be purchasing the CD sometime. The Arthur Flynn buried in Calvary seems to be a single grave site. Most of those buried in the same lot seem to have nothing in common except having died appproximately in the same time frame. Have you found Arthur's wife in the 1880 census? Or do you know where she is buried? With my Irish, it seems as if one side moved around a lot. With the 2 censuses for St. Louis City in 1880, most of the one side were at different address. I would like to think that it was due to improved circumstances but maybe they were just evicted from each place.

I will try to find both the addresses and check for Arthur Flynn in both areas in the 1870 census. I was able to find Arthur's burial record at Calvary Cemetery and I do have 14 September 1871 listed as his date of death. I did have his death record but I neglected to put down the reference for it. I don't have a certificate so I must have retrieved it from a list. Do you mind letting me know where you found the death record? Thanks. Now that you have enlightened me I will check the area around 717 S Second as well as the area around O'Fallon. Of course there is always the possiblity that there were 2 Arthur Flynns. For many years I thought that the Arthur Flynn who died 14 September 1871 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery was my g.g. grandfather. Now I may have to rethink that if I find there is more than one Arthur Flynn. I did find one Arthur Flinn listed in the 1870 census but it was not my g. g. grandfather. I suppose I could try to find out on which street this man was living. Again, thank you very much for your help. Martha Parker

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4755.1 Message Board Post: Paulette Morris has listed the boundaries for the various wards at the following website. You will need a map to find where O'Fallon falls. http://members.tripod.com/~Vide_Poche/index.html Dave Lossos website has a 1930 map of St. Louis that you could use to find O'Fallon and then look for the boundary streets from Paulette's site. http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/1930.htm Just read the descriptions of the ward boundaries. It looks like you would have to plot all the wards, starting with the first one since the boundaries use other ward boundaries as a basis. I started doing that for the 1900 census for some reason, and the ward boundaries took what I thought were weird turns. Somewhere I had information about the street numbering system but I cannot find it. What I remember is that Market street is the dividing line between North and South streets. I think the other was that each block consisted of units of 100 but I am not sure. That would make 2307, 23 blocks from the river. On my 1909 map it looks as if O'Fallon ends at Jefferson, just past 24th st. I found an Arthur Flynn on the St. Louis death Index for the 14 September 1871 which shows him living at 717 S. 2nd Street. This would put him south of Market and close to the river.

There may be a large quantity of hits in response to a search for a moderately common name. You can divide the search into ten parts, electing to do one or two each day. You do this by entering a single digit (zero to nine) in the window for zip code. For those willing to pay a fee, they can obtain addresses. There is also a link to a site that provides a list of about 3,300 Americans born on any date you select. 2) US SEARCH http://www.ussearch.com/consumer/index.jsp?fc=blue&TID=&adID=2041043263&sourceid=&adsource=27 This site requests surname, age and state. For free you get the city and state---and the option to buy public records. 3) http://switchboard.com/ This is a national telephone directory. Its advantage is that it does not insist that you provide the name of the state. There are messages on this board that discuss the Social Security Death Index, which is a good source of dates of birth. I like to use this version : http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/ It has an Advanced Search that permits you to search by first name and another fact. It has a form letter to apply for the decedent's SS-5 form. It allows one to click on "Add Post-em" to add an annotation to the entry---such as one's name and address. Reg Niles
