There are several places that have been set aside in heaven for people like you. Here is the info I have from my Dad, but I'm not quite sure how accurate the dates are with the exception of my Great Grandparents who are both buried in Jefferson Barracks. Seems my Great Grandfather, William Henry Lee I was a bugler in the Civil War...sounds like he was just a kid...sad. William Henry Lee I, born April 5, 1845, pied December 27, 1926. His wife, Elizabeth Holt Lee, born July 26, 1878, diedl July 31, 1928. Both are in Jefferson Barracks, Secion 621, Grave No. 12032. I'm not sure if they were both born in St. Louis, but I know they passed away there. Here's my Grandparents: William Henry Lee II, born April 5, 1878, passed away December 27, 1927. Supposedly burned in Old St. Marcus Cemetery. Sarah Hill Lee, born Frebruary 4, 1877, passed away on March 11, 1908 or December 9, 1932...not sure which date. She supposedly is buried in Bellfontaine Cemetery. Here again, not sure if births were in St. Louis, but my Dad always told me they were born there. As far as my Dad...he was born on October 5, 1903 in St. Louis. If you look him up, you'll find him born in St. Louis, passed away in San Mateo, CA. He's buried in Golden Gate Militery Cemetery in San Bruno, CA. He was a veteran of WWI and WWII. His last tour was at the Presidio in San Francisco. When the Korean War came rolling around, the Army asked him to reenlist and he served 2 more years at Fort Ord, CA training troops. All in all, he served in the Army for 32 years. I was born at the Presidio...Diana Mae Lee, on March 12, 1947...old bag now. You're an angel Sheryl...thanks so much. Oh, if you could get me the address of the St. Louis Library, the I can send for the certificates. Thanks again Sheryl...you're just super and I'm one lucky gal to have a new friend who is so thoughtful.

I was able to get information about a relative through the association but I apparently didn't keep the email address of the person who eventually contacted me. I would try getting the email address for someone in St. Louis from the following website. http://www.narbw.org/essence.html The St. Louis Public Library has City Directories for both the City and the County. You can request a look up. See following for more information. http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm

In the area there were two W H Lees married to Elizabeths with sons named William H. Both families also had several other children. Also, have you contacted the St. Louis library? If you know the date of their deaths, you can get their obits sent to you for a couple dollars. I think I recently had 40 mailed to me for $12. When I go to my mom's on Tuesday, I'll stop by Old St. Marcus if you like and see by chance if the headstone was used in the memorial wall.

If it is, then it's kind of nice to think that one of them might just by my grandfather, William Henry Lee II...getting misty here. I would love to know a little about him and his wife Sarah, but my Dad says they passed away when he was a little boy. According to my death dates, they were still alive when my Dad was in his twenties. I think something happened, possibly they drank a lot or something, as his grandparents, William henry Lee and Elizabeth Holt Lee raised him and he didn't have any brothers or sisters. He didn't remember if there were any cousins, etc. so as far as I know, I'm the only one left from his family. Makes me a bit sad to know that I don't have anybody on his side, but just the idea that one of these graves might be a family member gives me a little peace...am I grasping as straws here? Probably. Thanks so much Rosie...big hugs to you.

Old St. Marcus is just a little bit further down the street. It is the smaller piece of land where the path makes a Y with a circle in the middle. I believe the circle is where the City built a memorial wall out of some of the unclaimed tombstones (about 20-30). It is actually quite nice looking, but was not helpful in my search. Thanks for the link. It is interesting to look around. especially seeing St. Peter and St. Paul, where my grandparents (and several generations before them) are buried.

Unfortunately, I recently discovered 12 of my family members were buried at Old St. Marcus and were not moved when the bodies were moved to New St. Marcus. I have been to the park and it is almost impossible to tell where burial sites were, even with the map I received from the very nice woman at New St. Marcus. Only a dozen or so headstones still exist, these being too large to be moved or for the vandals to destroy (the park appears to be a place for teens to hang out and drink). If there were flat markers over any of the graves, they were either removed or have overgrown with weeds. It's quite a shame.

In fact, he would be my grandfather and I haven't been able to find him. Seems he was buried in the old St. Marcus Cemetery. I understand that they built a new St. Marcus and if you didn't have perpetual care for your family members, they were left behind and a park was built on the site. Very sad as I'll never be able to find him at this point. Hope this helps. I found all this out when I contacted the cemetery.
