Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4273.2.1.1.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Casper Meierotto, wife Catharine, son Joseph and daughter Catharine were living in St. Louis in a boarding house in 1850. District 82, this was in July. Casper was a brick maker, his brother Henry Meierotto was living there too he also was a brickmaker. The Meierotto name has been spelled many different ways by census takers over the years so I always have to use soundex to find them. The Henry Huchton living there was also a family member. The only thing on the 1850 census was" Boarding House, St. Louis Labour" so I guess it is where a lot of families stayed during the time the building of St. Louis was going on. As you can see I don't have much to go on. It is just assumed Casper Meierotto married Margaret Shoening in St. Louis , I have no proof yet. It is also said John Shoening was Margaret's father but I have not been able to verify that either. Casper and Margaret's son John was born there in 1852 or 1853. Casper, wife Margaret, daughter Catharine and son J! ohn were in Iowa in 1856. So Catharine Elizabeth and Joseph died after the 1850 census was taken in July and before 1851 because Casper married Margaret Shoening and their son John was born 1852 or 1853. This is all the information I have on them in St. Louis. Thanks for your help.

Could it have been outside the city limits? Lisa

The Meierotto's buried in Calvary come from Henry Meierotto, a brother to Casper. There would not be a birth record or death record for Catherine Elizabeth or Joseph because he was born before they kept records and died before they required death records. The old Holy Trinity cemetery records and church records are all I have left to check. I do not speak German so I am afraid until some German speaking person translates the records I may never know what happened to her and her son. I have information for Casper and Margaret Schoening (his second wife) after they moved back to Lee County, Iowa. Thanks again for keeping an eye out as you do your research.

They are available at the St Louis county library. Unfortunately, the records are all written in German and are tedius to go through. I am going today or tomorrow to the library to look at some documants on the church, I will keeo my eyes open for you. Have you tried the web site www.stlcathcem.com to look at the catholic cemetary listings in St Louis? You should be able to find them there if they are buried in a catholic cemetary in St Louis. If they were moved to Calvary then Calvary will have the records of the move listed. Unfortunately a lot of times when they move bodies there are no stones for them. Also, there are books on st louis births you might find the son in. Let me know if I can do anything else to help you and I will contact you if I find your family in my other searches. Lisa

I pretty much have what I need now on the Brocklands. A family member from St. Louis sent me the family tree. I am mainly interested in finding a marriage record for Margaret Schoening and Casper MeierOtto sometime around 1850 or 1851 and where Casper's first wife Catherine Elizabeth Raypool and their son Joseph is buried. I think maybe Holy Trinity Cemetery but I was told those graves were moved to Calvary. There are several Meierotto's buried there but she and her son Joseph are not listed. I found this information on the Calvary cemetery records for St. Louis. I was wondering if there are church records for Holy Trinity and St Laborius that might list their deaths for summer or fall of 1850. Margaret Shoening married Casper soon after the death of his first wife, some family members say 1851, they had a son John born in St. Louis, they along with Caspers daughter Catherine came back to Iowa.

I drove by the site of their Funeral home today but there are several empty lots and then a Lodge building. I do not know the exact address of the home so I do not know if that buildong was the sight. I am going to try to find out more info on the funeral home/ family/ and St Liborius church life. I will forward any info I find if you would like. I know nothing of the Meierotto family, but I will keep my eyes open while searching out Brockland/Boedeker/Bertelsmeyer families from that area. Also, next time I go to Calvary cemetary I'll see if I can find graves for Brocklands/Meierotto's. I do have more info on the Boedeker Line if you are interested. I have the line of Herman S Boedeker and Anna Bertelsmeyer Boedeker. He was the son of Herman boedeker and Anna Brockland Boedeker. The attached photos are of their wedding, the couple standing up for them are Leo Boedeker (brother of groom) and Frances Trost Voelker (cousin of Anna's). The second picture was taken at the convent in O'fallon MO back row: Herman and Anna Boedeker, her sisters Josephine and Consolata & Ida Bertelsmeyer, Their parents Joseph and Ida (Temborius) Bertelsmeier, front row is the children of Herman and Anna; Elizabeth, Robert, Rosemary and Mildred Boedeker.
