Surnames: Moore, Laurance, Lawrence Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4784 Message Board Post: I am looking for a death certificate and/or obituary and/or probate record for William C. Moore or his wife Harriett P. Moore, who were living at 3521 Choteau Avenue, St. Louis City, in the 1900 Census. William C. Moore was born in Surry Co., NC, then moved to Hawkins Co., TN, then Polk Co., MO, then Dade Co. 2. In a message dated 11/14/2004 05:01:34 Central Standard Time, MOSTLOUI-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: Jan: I do not have a plot book and can not tell you where in Lakewood Cemetery your relatives are located. I did, however, confirm that Delcie Koch is buried there. She was interred by Ziegenhein Mortuary. (Check the county library and see if they have a record of the burial. You might learn something from that.) Delcie's listing has a problem with either her age or her birthdate. She is listed as born on the 5th of March 1961 and was 59 when she was buried. I would bet that she died on the 5th of March 1961 because no death date is given. If you have been looking for records, this might be a mistake that originated at the cemetery. Most of the time, the burial records I have do not show the location of the person, but in the case of Carl H. Koch, Jr., it does. He is in section I - I , grave 133. (That is a capitol i - capitol i - not lower case L) Born 3 September 1921 and died June 7 1995 and is buried in Jefferson Barracks. Carl Koch, Sr. is buried in Lakewood Cemetery. Mortuary was Kreigshauser. Died 20 December 1957 at 71 years old. Lakewood cemetery is located in Affton, MO. It is an active cemetery. I would call them and ask for the locations of your relatives. Hey I live right around the corner from the Cemetery. I will gladly go over and get any information you need. Give me the names you are interested in if it is more than the above ones. What about the internment in Jefferson barracks Do you need it also? It just a hop and a skip away from me too. And I can cal the Mortuaries too, if you like. OldeNTQer

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4779.1 Message Board Post: The county farm was a St louis city cemetery located by Arsenal, Sublette and Flyler. It was where the city buried people who remains were not claimed by the family. In 1957 supposedly all remains were moved to Mount Lebanon Cemetery to make room for the Hampton Gardens Apts. According to the cemetery the remains arrived at Mount Lebanon with no records nor markers. They were buried north of Highway 70 at Cyress Road. This area became the parking lot for Hunter engineering. Their address is 11250 Hunter Drive at Cypress Road. In 1999 the remains were moved to Section F in cemetery when Mount Lebanon sold area to Hunter Eng.. Nobody knows where people are buried for sure or that all remains were moved in the moves. Sorry to say that your relation may be buried under Hampton Gardens apt, under Hunter Engineering Parking Lot or in Section F at Mount Lebanon Cemetery at 11101 St Charles Rock Road. Hope this helps. 1. Miller/Poteet/Metzger/Staudt
    2. Hi Karla - Sounds like you're on a roll with the 1900 census - not gospel, but very, very good. I wouldn't worry about multiple spellings for Sophie. If you pronounce that as a German it sounds a bit more like Sophia anyway. As to Staudt, Bahlow's dictionary says: Staude: (frequently in Liegnitz) in Silesia, which see, Slavic family names Staudak, Staudke and place name Staude in Upper Silesa (Slavic stem stud-). But Staudt Upper German (this means south, towards the Alps, High German), also Stäudle, Steudle, Steidle, and Stäuder, also Staudenmeyher; from a dwelling place in the Stauden = bushes, thickets, Alemannic (this is SW Germany/Switzerland/France) Stüder (Switzerland). Johan Stud, Villingen 1346. Also related is Staudacher. Middle High German stûdach "bushes"; also place name Stauigl (Würz. 1284) see Feldigel, Holzigel (Igel = Hedgehog), Studengast in Alem. 13th century - bush robber. Metzger: general Upper German term for a butcher (Middle High German metzjer, metziger, from metzjen "to slaughter' - metzje 'meat counter', also metzeler. From Latin macellarius (butcher) and macellum 'meat counter, market. See in Zurich 1258 Burch vor der Mezzje, in Konstanz 1259 Conrad hinder der mezzje. So now, if you can get back to 1346 and 1259, then you can rest on your laurels! These definitions are from only one source - there are others. Maureen

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4776.1 Message Board Post: UPDATE! First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you who read and thought about my previous post and I also thank every one of you who has emailed me with your thoughts, suggestions, similar experiences and well wishes!! You are very much appreciated! I want you all to know that I have finally succeeded in determining the true and actual last name of Arthur William Miller/Poteet and the true and actual first name for his beloved mother!! How? THE 1900 FEDERAL CENSUS! (may God bless this particular census taker)!! It goes as follows: 1900 Federal Census Kansas City, Jackson Co., Mo. June 1, 1900 Sheet# 2 B Prospect Avenue Family# 40 Poteet, James C. Head Policeman 49 yrs. b. Aug. 1851 in Tn. Married 9 yrs. f.b. Tn. m.b. Tn. Sophie M. (A little different version but short for 'Sophia' so we are still at '3' for the number of given names for her.) Wife 34 yrs. b. April 1866 in Tx. f.b. Germany m.b. Germany Claudius E. Son Day laborer 26 yrs. b. Nov. 1873 in Tn. f.b. Tn. m.b. Tn. Arthur W. Poteet Son 9 yrs. b. July 1890 in Mo. f.b. Tn. m.b. Tx. END I am hoping that, after reading the above census, a jaw or two has dropped and somewhere out there someone is saying "Oh my goodness, they're part of my family"!!! If this is indeed the case then I really would like to hear from you if you care to contact me. Lela had no children and, as near as I can determine, Arthur didn't either so we wouldn't be stepping on the toes of any of their descendants when discussing this between ourselves. Thank you again and have a great evening! Karla
