Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4783.2 Message Board Post: I just realized that I don't know where Affton is. If it is the St. Louis Metro area, I would guess that the St. Louis papers would have carried the obit/death notice. If not, I would contact a library in Affton (use a google search) and see what the local papers are and if they are available for that time period anywhere in the library system. Georgia

I have been able to order St. Louis newspapers through the Inter Library Loan (ILL) program and I live in the Detroit area. The other option would be to order her death certificate to get an actual date. Death certificate should also give the cemetery and funeral home that handled the arrangements. If the funeral home is still open, they most likely have a copy of the obit. http://www.health.state.mo.us/

Moore who was born about 1858 according to earlier census records. The age is off by a couple of years, but that is not unusual. With the same name, approximate age, and nearby address, this could be their unmarried son William who was living with them in Pettis County in 1880. I hadn't found him in the 1900 census and this may be why.

Moore was about 77 years old, so this appears as if it could be a match. I do not know of any members of this family that were Catholic, but that does not mean this is not her. I will follow up with other records to see if I can confirm her identity. I do not know who the Louie H. Moore is. I do not of any such name in this family. Perhaps this is an unknown member of the family or perhaps this is another Harriet P. Moore the same age in St. Louis, which is entirely possible. Thanks for the clue for me to follow up. Maybe I can find an obituary for Louis to see if there is some possible connection.

    2. He could enlist anywhere. Recruiters use to go from town to town seeking enlistment. The recruiter would recruit for a certain regiment. It not like enlisting in the army today. Maybe he joined up with a cousin or a friend.
