At least you will know his rroots. Then try the White pages for that city or town to see if there is a listing for him. If not, you can go to SSDI (the Social Security Death Index to see if he is deceased. Don't use the Interactive Search one as that doesn't ask the state in which his Social Security card was issued. Chances are he may have had it issued in his hometown or in Missouri.

    2. During WWII it was the US ARMY Air Corps. The US Air Force came into being later, 1947. The National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri, held Officers separated after June 29, 1917 and Enlisted personnel separated after October 31, 1912. However the records were destroyed by fire in the St. Louis Center in 1973. That's what I call researching the family tree! I don't see a connection to my family off the top of my head but my great-grandfather was Avram Yoel Tilles, who could have been born around 1887 so he could be the Abraham Tilles listed as born Feb 13, 1887 to Mendel Tilles (and Tauba), grandson of Symon Berl Tilles and Faigli Freilich. Is there someone who I can ask for more info on this Abraham Tilles? Or can we tell where this branch of the Tilles family was in Europe? (My branch came from Brest-Litovsk, I believe.) Thanks, Doug
