    1. Wacker-Helderle Funeral Home -- still around?
    2. Linda
    3. Does anyone know if this funeral home is still around in St. Louis? I couldn't find a listing for it in the yellow pages. They handled my cousin's funeral in 1970, and now I would like to request records from them. Thank you. Linda

Moore This autogroaph book was purchased in an antique store. I have extracted all genealogy inforamtion that was in it. I have copied it exactly as it appears. I assume that if the girl didn't put the city with her address, that meant she lived in St. Louis. Some were hard to read and there could be mistakes so use this for reference only. The book belonged to Louise Holderbrook and and she gave her address as 2314 S. Compton Ave. St. Louis, Missouri Most of the entries were dated on or about June of 1929. 1. Please help--Charles and Catharine Gilbert in St. Louis
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Gilbert, Casserly or Cassidy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WMB.2ACE/4822 Message Board Post: Looking any information on this Gilbert family. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Gilbert born 10-06-1871 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents were Charles Gilbert and Catharine Casserly (or Cassidy). Elizabeth's birth records say her mother's maiden name was Casserly although everyone in my family has always said it was Cassidy. Charles was born in Germany and Catherine was born 1843 in Northern Ireland. It is said that they ran away together to get married and come to America. All her children (I believe four children) were born in St. Louis although they moved to Henniker, New Hampshire where Catharine died on 05-01-1912. Not sure where Charles died--perhaps St. Louis but it was probably between 1874-1880. Catharine is shown as a widow in NH in the 1880 census.

Surnames: Bingen, Uder Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4821 Message Board Post: Is there anyone out there that might be able to help me locate this ancestor? She was my g-great grandfather's sister who married a man named Nicholas Uder, a shoemaker, from Prussia. She was born around 1825 in Prussia and came to the US in 1846. The family lived in Wisconsin until Nicholas died in 1878. It appears that Maria/Mary moved to St. Louis, where she was located in the 1880 Census. She is gone by the 1900 Census, so I'm under the impression that she died between 1880 and 1900. I would appreciate any help in locating her death cert (if there is one), an obit or where she is burried. Thank you very much for your help!!

The brother traveled round trip to California twice. For your ancestor finding any ships name or passenger list would be difficult but with more and more information coming on line every day who knows. I too am amazed at what our ancestors endured, traveling across the US in the 1850s would be a very difficult trip, especially with children and maybe one on the way.

How did you find out how your ancestor came back from California? Are there records somewhere of those ships that left California and headed to Panama? Or would I have better luck trying to find some record of boats from New Orleans to St. Louis? Thanks!! As far as the mode of travel - I marvel at the places they went and how they got there. My ancestor was born in VA, married in New York, first child in Missouri, married again in Illinois, overland to CA, had two more children, back to Missouri, where she settled. She saw much more of the U. S. than I have!!

He sailed out of Boston to Panama, then across the isthmus by horse and carriage to the Pacific then another ship to California. At the time that was the easiest way to go. Your ancestor likely came from California by ship to Panama then across the isthmus to another ship to New Orleans then by flat boat up the Mississippi. And today we curse the poor service we get on the airlines. :)
