    1. Alberta Claire - The Girl From Wyoming
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Claire, Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4868 Message Board Post: The following article was published in a St. Louis newspaper in February of 1912. The Grand-Leader referred to in this article is the St. Louis department store which later became known as Stix, Baer and Fuller, one of the largest and most opulent department stores in St. Louis. GIRL ON RIDE TO EAST. Young Woman With Pony and Dog at Grand-Leader. Miss Alberta Claire, the girl from Wyoming, is a demonstration of health and huskiness, acquired from living in the open. She is telling crowds about it at the Grand-Leader this week. Miss Claire has made 6,800 miles on a pony from Sheridan, Wy. She is on her way to Buffalo. If Miss Claire gets to Buffalo by April 2 she will win a 3,800 acre ranch and $1,000. The easiest part of her jhourney is before her and she has time to throw away. She, her pony and dog are to be seen every day this week on the fifth floor of the Grand-Leader -- next to the nursery. Miss Clair measures one inch less than 5 feet, with energy enough to supply two women of normal height. She weighs 100 pounds. On her way here she experienced many hardships such as going long distances without water and food and being caught in the mountains at night without shelter. She had several narrow escapes, but was aided by mountaineers and lumbermen. Miss Claire was educated at Cheltan College, England. Her father was an American, her mother English. She talks well and interingly and is proving an attraction as a lecturer at the Grand-Leader. ====================================== Click Icon below to view photograph of Alberta Claire being greeted at finish line in Buffalo, New York at end of her 10,000 mile journey. I left information on Richard Bruce Hoeltge on your other post request. Richard F. Hoeltge was Richard Bruce's father. Richard F. Hoeltge was adopted. He had two other real brothers and I believe Mrs. Richard F. Hoeltge (who resides in St. Louis and is listed as Richard F Hoeltge in the phone book told me that those two brothers were adopted by other families and they never got back together as adults before they died. I have a large amount of information on this family as I had started the family tree for Richard F. Hoeltge's grandson (Richard Bruce Hoeltge, II) when he and I were dating. I never completed it but still have the info. Richard Bruce Hoeltge Sr. died in Corpis Christi TX of alcohol posioning and I also have a copy of his death certificate I would be happy to share with you. 2. The St Louis Public Library provides a GREAT service by photcopying the obits if you can give the date of burial or death, even if it is not indexed. The St Louis Catholic Cemeteries are online, from the very beginning to today's burials. The St L PL charge is $.25/page plus $1.00 mailing charge. Part of my hesitation has been the desire to look at the "St. Louis Post Dispatch" obit before ordering and paying for a record that might not be what I seek. However it may take a while for me to see the pertinent edition of the "St Louis Post Dispatch" because I am in New Hampshire and the oldest issues I can get my hands are are only from the 1980's. What would be your fee for looking up that record?

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WMB.2ACE/4861.1 Message Board Post: Dear John, Do you have your mother's death certificate? Or birth certificate? If not, write to the vital records department of the state in which she was born and to the Missouri State Dept. of Health for her death record. The death record should give her parents' names if they were known to the informant. A birth record is generally better. http://www.health.state.mo.us/ On the left hand side of the website, click on birth and death records to find out how to get one or both of them. Was your mother old enough to have been on the 1930 census? Do you know her maiden name? What religion was she? There may be church records available for information. Do you have her obituary? If not, email the St. Louis Public Library at the following website-see item # 13 . http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm Also, look at what else is available at the library. It may come in handy when you trace your mother's ancestors back. If your parents were married in St. Louis/St. Louis County and you have a good idea of the date, ask the library for a lookup in the indexes. See item # 5. If you live in the St. Louis area, you might want to join the St. Louis Genealogical Society or a society in the city where you live. They should all be able to help you with general information on searching for ancestors. http://www.stlgs.org/index.shtml Do you have a family bible or funeral cards? Old letters with addresses? These can be sources of information. Do you know where your mother is buried? Check to see if there are family members in the same cemetery. Is your mother's maiden name Freiner? There are Freiners on the Catholic cemeteries index. http://www.stlcathcem.com/iSearch.aspx
