There is a Johann Becker in St Louis, age 57, born Germany, cabinet maker, with wife Wilhemina and a daughter with the same name. They live in a rented house so is it quite possible that they may have moved to another address by 1904. Try looking here: 1900; Census Place: St Louis Ward 5, St Louis (Independent City), Missouri; Roll: T623 890; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 71. I hope this helps. 1. Re: [MOSTLOUI] Thomas R. Howard
    2. Your best bet to obtain information concerning the Howard family is to write directly to the cemetery office. There is one very large area in Bellefontaine where there are not stones, not unusual though, it is estimated that about 40% of all burials in any given cemetery do not have tombstones. It would help if you would include your address in your queries. According to the passenger list papers from NYC when they arrived, they were to travel to St Louis to stay with an uncle, Johann Beckers of 7800 Michigan Ave. I have been unable to find Johann on the 1900 Census. Any help would be appreciated. I know that the Seiferts were in MD by the 1910 census, and it appears that his wife Selma died somewhere in between. I would like to know how long they lived in St Louis or if they ever went there at all. Maybe someone has access to old city directories from 1904-1910 or so, that would be a start. The St. Louis Public Library (online) is an easy and inexpensive route to obituaries. They have a Death Index by year and alphabet. Once you have a date, you can request by email copies for .25 cents per sheet and $1.00 mailing fee. Recently, I was sent both the obit and death certificate on my g'pa and all I knew when I started out was his name. Also, you can go to the Missouri Secretary of State website and they have archives of death certificates Pre-1910 and 1910 to 1956 (they have to be at least 50 years deceased) and they are scanned images you can view and order copies of for very little. The obits at the library have all the names of the children which would be big help. Two more places to look online: The Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary website and the Social Security Death Index website(it tells where people were living when they died).Goodluck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Back in 2002 I was in touch with Brent via email but my email address has changed since then. I know where he works now, maybe that is a way. Let me know if you know who I am talking about. I don't know what those two files might contain. Walter A. Panneck was into many things that generated documents that had nothing to do with his family. But since it was 1927 it may well be his probate. I copied seven of many pages in his probate file. Those pages included an interview with Stasia Kelber covering four pages. That was filed in August 1927. Also a petition dated 12 Aug 1927 and a paper noting the addresses for Gustav Panneck and that two notices had been sent to each address with the date 28 Oct 1928 on it. The county put their old probate records on microfiche and gave the originals to the La Salle County Genealogical Guild in Ottawa,Illinois which is online. (The library has a tremendous amount of material.) That is where I read the probate papers for Walter A. Panneck. It definitely names Gustave Panneck and his wife Ida as his brother. It gave three places of residence for them -- Mexborough, Alabama; Lucerne, Missouri and Jonesboro, Arkansas. (I suspect the transcriber put in Gustave for Gus.) I don't know if you can get them through the county but the Guild I believe will copy them at so much per page. Other survivors were two sisters, Stasia Kelber (Anastasia, wife of Isadore Kelber of La Salle, IL.) and Mary A. Smith (wife of Alexander) of Milwaukee, Wisc. The document was the proof I needed to be sure your Gus Panneck was related to Walter A. Panneck. Gus is also mentioned in the obit. Walter was a very colorful person and much was written about him in the newspapers, his picture included. Since I live in southern Illinois I was able to request the newspapers on microfilm at my local library. The Daily Post Tribune Friday 12 August 1927 has the obit for Walter. He was a former city lawyer and a very popular mayor 1903-1908. He was frequently sought as an orator at various public gatherings. He was also considered a champion of the underdog and took on many undesirable defense cases. Governer Dunne of Illinois also appointed him to the Illinois & Michigan Canal Commission. While he was still working as a lawyer in 1927, his health was preventing him from doing the work as well as he did in the past. He was so ill that he did not even have a will written out for himself! Stasia Kelber's obit was in the newspaper on May 21, 1932 and mentions her brother, Gus Panneck of Arkansas. familysearch.org has their interpretation of that 1880 Census but not the original. Ancestry does have the original but only to members. You might check with your local library on inter-library loan of the mf. I do have a xerox but it is hard to read. Maybe we can figure out a way. In the same census his cousin Walter was also listed as a female. Little boys in that time period wore clothing similiar to little girls so between the heavy accents of the parents and the child's clothing it is uderstandable. I have traced the family back to Gus' great-grandparents in Poland who were also recorded as Janek in the Wirsitz county.
