What I have NOT been able to find is a marriage record for Johann Wilhelm and Margareta/Margaret BACH. This doesn't mean it doesn't exist--it just means I haven't been able to locate one. My suggestion would be to find out what church they attended and call/write the minister/priest/whoever and request a marriage record search. It may take a while to locate the record, so be prepared to wait for weeks whenever you request something from an active church. Good luck in further researching! I just noticed the similarity in the names while reading the book, "Egan's Rats," and thought I'd post the info just in case somebody was looking for this young man. The book does go on to say that "the youthful Scheel was a promising student and a member of one of the most prominent families in BELLEVILLE, Illinois." [Waugh, Egan's Rats. p. 59] There is quite a bit more on the circumstances surrounding the shooting in the book, in case anyone is interested. I don't know if this is going to help anyone or simply confuse things. But there's the information. Madehlinne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You wouldn't believe how I've seen my names spelled. Also 2 years difference in birth is not unusual either to be the same person. I think often they didn't really know or care that much about an actual birth date. I'd want to be finding BOTH of them in the 1900 Census to really be more assured that he's not yours. Unfortunately, this was not one of my relatives. (Or maybe, fortunately, I am sure this was quite a traumatic experience for that Scheel family.) There could be some relationship with my family since the spellings are so close. I do have a Frederick in my family history, but it is spelled with the extra "e" at the end. It got my attention because the Fredericks were born two years apart and both from St. Louis. My family has a Fred, Otto, Emil, Wiliam, Bertha, Adolph, and Thomas born around those dates. Are you related to a Scheele from St. Louis? I have only been at this genealogy stuff a couple of years. It is fascinating though. The facts and numbers are one thing, but the "behind the scenes" types of stories are what gives the facts their character and insight. Thanks again, jholl0829 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There is an interesting account of the accidental shooting of one FREDERICK SCHEEL, "a postgraduate student at the St. Louis Law School," on 14 Sept. 1904 in Daniel E. Waugh's book, "Egan's Rats." Just though I'd offer this tidbit--if this is NOT your family, then ignore me ;)--it's OK. Madehlinne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
