It's been awhile since I've queried the list about this family and I wondering perhaps has someone may have made some connection. William was born in Fleming Co KY about 1785 but migrated to St Louis about 1830 with his wife Rachel and 9 children who were also all born in Fleming Co. Does anyone think they might have a connection to this family? I am descended from Jarrett Davis and have a lot of history on that line. All of William's children were identified on his probate records of 1832. George William Davis and wife Rachel ..Jarrett ..George W - may have married to Harriet Beard in St Louis ..Nancy - married Nichlas Tomlin and moved to Montgomery Co ..Sally Ann ..Robert ..William ..Talitha - may have married Turner Maddox in St Louis ..Cornilla ..Amanda

It's an entire possibility that your Frederick/originally Friedrich D. just MIGHT have been born in New Orleans. My mother's family, named LANDGRAF/VON LANDGRAF, arrived in New Orleans sometime between 1845-1850, although I have yet to quite pin the date down. Anyway, there were two brothers [Jacob Franz {Frank} and Anton Franz {Frank}] and possibly a sister who came to the U.S. Jacob F., later known as Frank and my great-great-grandfather, came north to settle in St. Louis, although he and his wife, Maria Catherine Steuernagel, were married in New Orleans. I have a copy of their marriage certificate. The other brother, Anton and his wife Elizabeth Brandau and family, remained in New Orleans, through the Civil War [I haver a very old tintype of him in his Confederate uniform with his wife at his side], and then came north to St. Louis. But Anton and Elizabeth returned to New Orleans for a couple of years because, although they had several children, the oldest and the youngest were BOTH born in New Orleans. I suspect they had some kind of business dealings down South. I too saw that German sailor listing and thought that THAT just might be your ancestor. The dates being off by a couple of years like that wouldn't discourage me from tracing that particular trail of info. Let me dig a little further and see if I can find anything in New Orleans. Madehlinne, I've been reading your postings on this New Orleans/St. Louis connection issue. I believe most of my German farming folks took the boat up the Mississippi too. (I don't have Ancestry or other subscription services .) I was just about to begin my New Orleans research when Katrina hit, so put it off, for obvious reasons. Can you please direct me to resources you know about for the next phase, the New Orleans part of my genealogical scramble? His obit said he was born in New Orleans I am guessing maybe my great grandmother was told a story of them coming into port there??? and so when they did the obit assumed he was born there when everything else says Mo. and his marriage cert said St Louis Mo. I don't know thier religious pref. either sorry. I am assuming luthern like most germans were here but I Am not sure. I did read that alot of Germans came through new orleans and then went through ST Louis to thier destination. I also saw a listing for crew from Bremen that listed a HIR Dornbush BUT what little I could access says his birthdate was 1823 which is close to 1825 which is a possibility??? (Hinrich is Henry in German so it could have been him but then don't know how a wife would have fit in there? (and Frederick was born in May of 1856) and Henry was born in German Prussia 4.9.1825 there is no mention of anyone else in any of the records... and Fred is always listed as Anna's step son in later census. so???? anything you could find whould be wonderful! Tracey, did they ever 'americanize' their surname? In my old german home town, we had families named 'Dorn', I never researched them, so wonder if they dropped part of the name etc. None of your names ring a bell with me, but it is just a thought. My German Catholic ancestors come via New Orleans and I think some came on the Breman too. Many of mine came from the same area of Germany/Prussia too. DORNBUSH Henry, age 54; stourt [exactly what it says] brick maker; born: Prussia Anna, age 40; keeping house; born: Wurttemburg; Fredrick, age 25; laborer; born: Missouri; Henry, age 15; born: Illinois; Katherine, age 13; born: Illinois; Joseph, age 11; born: Illinois; Jacob, age 6; born: Illinois; and Anna, age 4; born: Illinois. Is this the family you're looking for? I find no record for Frederick/Friedrich Dornbusch's birth in St. Louis. It's entirely possible that the family came to the U. S. through New Orleans. Many, many Germans bypassed the East Coast and came through New Orleans [that would also include my own German family] because from there, they could take a boat to St. Louis up the Mississippi. It was cheaper than by going overland from say, New York. Can you tell me: were they Catholic or Protestant? That would make a difference if I were to search elsewhere. Let me know. My uncle passed away and left me a bunch of old photos from the 1940's and maybe the 1930's. I do not know these people but thought some descendants might be interested in them. They were taken in or near Baden and several are from members of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Baden. In my own file, I have: Benjamin C. Williams married to Victoire Tesson Dec 30 1840. I don't have a birth or death date for either of them. Altho I would imagine Victoire was born between 1802 and 1823, judging from the dates of her parents info. I don't know about any children. I could find very little on them at the time I was researching. I do have sibling for Victoire. My info says she was born at Meramac, St. Louis, MO Pat

Hi lists.... I am wondering if anyone on either list has access to the 1850 St. Louis Mortality Schedule. The SLGS index has a listing on the schedule for a "Victoria Williamson" that I am interested in. I am hoping the actual schedule will have some additional information. Also, I was hoping someone could help me with a marriage listing. I found an index for St. Louis Marriages 1804-1867, that shows a marriage between Benjamin Williams and Elizabeth "Hilltle" (Hittle). I was wondering if anyone had access to the actual image or listing information for this marriage. Thank you so much for any help. Christine
