Hello list, for those whose ancestors came from England the Yesterdays site has thousands of names taken from thousands of records of people who are to be found on official documents as found in Derbyshire. Many of these people named were not Derbyshire born as they came from all over the British Isles seeking work or appearing in documents relating to Crime and Law. It is possible a lost ancestor may be found as many have already been located. Removal orders, the instrument in which people were as it suggests, Removed back to their legal Settlement. This was because the place they had moved to, now found the person or family chargeable to the parish, in other words, they had become a financial burden so they were removed to the place the Settlement Certificate, which they had given to the Overseers of the new parish said they belonged to . Sometimes disputes arose over that Settlement and Settlement Examinations were a resume of the persons life, his age ,where born , his work and or military experience, marital status ,all recorded to determine where he "belonged". Those records and many more are all on the site which keeps getting added to on a regular basis. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
