    3. FARMINGTON NEWS, Farmington, St. Francois County, Missouri, Thursday, May 14, 1964 OLD LANG HOME BEING TORN DOWN FOR COIN CAR WASH An old landmark was practically gone this week with the demolition of the big two-story home on East Columbia, which was occupied for many years by the late Misses Mary and Emma Lang. A self-service 25 [cent] coin wash is to be installed on the premises shortly with entrance from East Liberty street. Members of the Preferred Credit Acceptance Corporation, which owns the property, are H. Lee Wichman, Tom P. Fitz, Leslie Huber, Robert Rapp, Victor Quesnel, Charles Elder and Francis Carrow. The corporation's office is at 223 East Columbia, where Carrow has his insurance business. The razing of what was once a show place at the countyseat is being done by the Crites family at Doe Run. In taking the residence down oak two by fours and handmade nails were found to have been used when the house was erected in the 1800's. The Lang home sat far back from East Columbia with its grassy lawn and flowering shrubs and plants always well tended and lovely. The house was opposite the Lang wagon factory, noted throughout Missouri for its manufacture of durable wagons for all parts of the state. E. C. Robinson Lumber Co., now occupies the old Lang buildings. Farmers coming to Farmington to shop on Saturdays used to stop their horses, wagons, and buggies on East Liberty at the rear of the home. Entire families ate the lunches they had brought with them while nose bags containing grain were placed around the horses heads. Miss Irene Lang, 605 North Washington, also lived in the old home with her late father, Tom Lang, who was a brother of the Misses Lang. In recent years the Lang home had been a rooming house. Carrow says a small playground for children may be established on the site of the car wash for the benefit of families washing their automobiles.
