FARMINGTON NEWS, Farmington, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, January 3, 1930 J. H. SHANNON James Hugh Shannon was born near Farmington, Mo., Oct. 13, 1852, and passed away December 29, 1929, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Susan Spradling, after an illness of several months, aged 77 years, 2 months and 16 days. Mr. Shannon was a member of one of the county's most highly respected and pioneer families. His parents were the late Rev. J. C. and Carolyn Shelly Shannon, who reared a family of twelve on a farm one and one-half miles east of Farmington. The deceased was an honorable, Christian man. In early manhood he united with the M.E. Church at Flat River. For many years he taught in rural schools; later he conducted a general merchandise store in Desloge after which he returned to farming. After the death of a sister, Mrs. Jennie Atterbury, he tenderly cared for an invalid brother, Frank, who passed away about ten years ago. Mr. Shannon was unmarried. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Susan C.Spradling, of Farmington Route One, and three brothers, Dr. I. N. Shannon, of Fredericktown, Dr. Wesley Shannon, of Bonne Terre, and L. C. Shannon, of Flat River. A sister, Mrs. Emma Level, passed away seven months ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. T. Ricketts at 11 a.m., Dec. 31st, at the Cozean Funeral Home. Interment was in the Shannon family cemetery.
