FARMINGTON TIMES, Farmington, St. Francois County, Missouri, Thursday, October 24, 1901 AGED NINETY-THREE ________ "Grandma" Patterson Passes Away October 19, 1901 ________ Mrs. Nancy Patterson died last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Matilda Horn, in Marion township, aged 93 years, four months and twenty-four days. Mrs. Patterson, whose maiden name was Poe, was born in what is now Ste. Genevieve county, May 25, 1808, and on arriving at womanhood was married to Alexander Patterson, who died leaving her a widow about forty years ago. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom, four daughters and one son, survive her, together with 40 grandchildren and 83 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Patterson was a devoted and faithful member of the Southern Methodist Church, and a woman whose sterling worth and many loveable traits of character are cherished by her children, grandchildren, and the multitude of friends whom she drew about her in her long, eventful and useful life. Everybody knew her by the endearing name of "Grandma Patterson," and her last days were full of peace and contentment in the love of her children, whose mourning, though she may be sadly missed, must be turned into joy at the thought that she has but laid aside the vestures of feeble old age to put on the glorious garments of immortal youth. The funeral took place Sunday and the frail tenement of this good woman was laid at rest in the old family burying ground in Boyer's prairie.
