LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, August 11, 1933 JOHN D. HIGHLEY John D. Highley, better known as "Uncle Harve", St. Francois County's oldest merchant and a resident of the county for 75 years, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Monday, August 7, 1933, at the advanced age of 87 years, 5 months and 23 days. Funeral services were held at ten o'clock Wednesday morning at the M.E. Church, South, at Farmington, of which he had been an honored member for more than fifty years, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Clarence Burton. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery in charge of Neidert's service. The deceased was born in Washington County, Missouri, February 14, 1846, and when twelve years of age moved to Flat River, spending the remainder of his life in this county. In 1864 he was married to Rebecca Jane Thomason, who preceded him in death on October 15, 1922. Three children were born to this union; one son, John Hugh, died at the age of four years; two daughters, Laura Ann, who became Mrs. A. S. Davis, also deceased, and Emma Elizabeth, Mrs. B. J. Robinson of Farmington. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robinson, with whom he had made his home for a number of years. His two sons-in-law, Dr. B. J. Robinson and A. S. Davis, were devoted to him as sons in the flesh. There are also two grandchildren, Dr. John B. Robinson and Mrs. Lela McKinney, and three great grandchildren, all of Farmington. Uncle Harve was known in all his active life for his philanthropy and neighborliness, and was a friend to everyone.
