I know that a lot of people did not remember reading it, so to answer it, I included it with my answer. The Conways that I really know are in the Shannon Co area. After they left Shannon, I only know them by the new surnames. That is why I wanted connections to anyone in the Reynolds Co who might know of connections to my Shannon people. I once spoke to a phone company person who was connected to the Conways in Reynolds and she said that the Conways in both Counties were all family in some way. See my Mary Conwy Conwy could have been a relative to her husband. When there were no outsiders, kin married kin. The two said that they were born in TN, but they could have been born in NC and lived in TN for a while before ending up in Shannon. Her mother was from Ky in one record and her father from TN and I think his name might have been Charles. I traced a relative of her son Charles who works in a University, but he said he knew nothing about her and I guess did not care. She was always a heroine of my mother and me. She could outride any man and did. Both my mother and I were always tough health wise and we both were absolutely crazy about horses. Her second husband could have been from Shannon also and he could have been of English extraction. Remember my computer is still down and I have to go off the top of my head. See, I just have other things to do and money to put on other things. --- On Thu, 12/25/08, Joyce Wafford <ograndma1@sbcglobal.net> wrote: From: Joyce Wafford <ograndma1@sbcglobal.net> Subject: Re: [MOSTFRAN] Conwy / Conway Surname + other names To: mostfran@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, December 25, 2008, 4:51 PM Merry Christmas, Alanna. I hope that you are staying warm back there. As you know I now live in California, and it has been awfully cold here his past couple of weeks, and I know that Missouri is probably even colder. I was reading your message that you put across the MOSTFRAN List. I have some CONWAY family members listed in my family tree. If I send you a PDF File, would you let me know if any are related to your line? I currently do not have "The Webs We Weave" up and running online, as I am getting ready to print it to book form, but want to make sure that I do not miss any family information. I like the way that you signed your message, "The so called Scammer", lol. I saw your messages before regarding being called a Scammer, but I never did see the one from the person that your said called you that. The wives of the sons came from different States. My ancestor is the 8th son, John, who married a Mary Conwy. This family was conected and still is to the Conways around Shannon Co. One main place was Reynolds Co. When John and his oldest son and John's best friend disappear, Mary takes her children and moves to Iron Co. She marries a John Haile and has one child at least. An orbit was posted here about him -- Charles Price Haile. This John also disappears. The 1870 census is incorrect if they are the ones there, maybe to hide from the Yankees as they were Confederates. Mary is buried in Leadwood Cem. Son, Aden, who was named after John's best friend, Aden Wimpy, moved to Perry Co with his wife. Both die and their child is raised by Mary. Daughter Nancy married a former Union soldier and after six months he died of facial cancer leaving her with a son, John Walker who was St Francois Co at times. Nancy then married an Elias Kelly Calahan of St Francois Co. The Callahans had several children in Wayne Co where my grandfather was working and met a Callahan daughter and married her. Grandfather took the whole family to his home in St Francois Co where he was so well known. Grandfather's relatives had been in Mo since at least 1820. No they do not show in the 1870 census again hiding out. Mary daughter of the above Mary married late. She was in SF Co. She married an H L Stewart and died of breast cancer. She is buried near her mother in Leadwood Cem. Nancy had a daughter Mary Cristal Calahan who married a Jim Vance. There was an Aunt Margie. Cristal had a baby and she may have died at age 18. They were marrried in SF Co. That is all I know. This Jim may have died or remarried. I have not mentioned my grandfather's first family and his father's first and second families and their children. My family computer is still down, so this if off the top of my head.
