LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, July 29, 1932 MINE ACCIDENT PROVED FATAL _________ Charge of Dynamite Explodes As He Prepared To Fire Missed Hole _________ Wilbur A. Jones of Bonne Terre, who was injured Saturday, July 16, at the Bonne Terre mines of the St. Joseph Lead Company, died at the Barnes hospital in St. Louis, Saturday, July 23, at 7:15 p.m. As reported in last week's issue of the Lead Belt News, Mr. Jones was injured shortly after beginning his duties for the day. He was recharging one of the unfired charges of the shift on duty previous to his, when in some unexpected manner, the charge exploded prematurely. He was rushed to the Bonne Terre hospital and then to Barnes where everything was done to prolong and save his life. He had been employed by the St. Joseph Lead Company for about eleven years and was considered one of the most faithful and careful employes of the company. Wilbur Austin Jones, son of the late Daniel and Emma Jones, was born near Bonne Terre, Mo., March 27, 1900. He was united in marriage to Bertha Blackwell of near Bonne Terre, October 24, 1925. To this union there was one child born, Marjorie Lee. Mr. Jones professed faith in Christ about three years ago during the evangelistic meeting under the leadership of Rev. D. K. Foster. He united with the Bonne Terre Baptist church immediately thereafter. He has been a faithful member, and has lived a consistent Christian life. He has served as one of the ushers and has always proved faithful and true as a Christian and to the trusts committed to him in the church and Kingdom work. At the time of his going he was 32 years, three months and 27 days old. In his going a good Christian man, faithful church member, a true and affectionate husband and father has gone from our midst. He leaves to mourn his going his beloved wife and little daughter, Marjorie Lee, three brothers, W. I. Jones of Gilbertville, Mass., Grover Jones of Desloge and Leonard Jones of Bonne Terre; two aunts, Mrs. Edd Cordia of Richwood, Mo., and Mrs. Lizzie Jones of Flat River; two uncles, Fred Pierce of Richwood, Mo., and Austin Pierce of Montana and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church of Bonne Terre Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. J. B. Ragsdale, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. H. Winstead of Desloge. Burial was in the Bonne Terre cemetery with the Boyer Undertaking Company of Desloge in charge. The News offers sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
