LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, June 23, 1939 MRS. HARRIET HUGHES Mrs. Harriet Hughes was born in Belgrade, Mo., January 6, 1856, and passed away June 16, 1939, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Tropp, of Bonne Terre. At the time of her death she was 84 years 5 months 10 days of age. She was united in marriage to John W. Hughes of Belgrade on March 6, 1879. To this union there were seven children born, three boys and four girls. They were Dora, Maude, James, Irvin, Harriet, Thomas and Leona. She was preceded in death by her husband four years ago. Mrs. Hughes became a Christian in 1891 and united with the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Later she transferred her membership to the Liberty Baptist Church at Belgrade where she remained a consistent member the rest of her life. She was faithful to the duties entrusted to her as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Hughes had been in failing health for the past four years due to her age and complications. She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted children, Mrs. Dora Krig of New Athens, Ill., Irvin Hughes of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Georke Jekne of St. Louis and Mrs. Roy Tropp of Bonne Terre. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Atchison of Caledonia, Mo.; seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Bonne Terre Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock by Rev. R. L. Shell of Bismarck, assisted by Rev. Victor Connelley, pastor. Burial was made in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Caledonia. Benham Service.
