LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, May 26, 1939 J. A. EYE, ELVINS MERCHANT, DIED WEDNESDAY J. A. Eye, well known Elvins man, owner and manager of the J. A. Eye I.G.A. Store in Elvins, died at his home in that city at noon Wednesday, May 24th, following a lingering illness. He was 68 years 9 months 15 days of age. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26th, at 2 p.m. at the Elvins Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. R. F. Liddell, pastor of the Baptist Church at Senath, Mo., assisted by Rev. D. D. Seger, pastor at Elvins. Interment will be in Big River Cemetery near Irondale. Sparks Service. John Ace Eye was born at Scotia, Mo., August 9, 1870, and was a son of the late Laben and Rachel Ann Eye. He was married to Sally Smith, who preceded him in death at Irondale in 1924. They were the parents of five children: Maude (Mrs. G. J.) Bartlow of Leadwood, Cressie (Mrs. Guy) Maxwell of Irondale, Annie (Mrs. Herman) Dickey of Boonville, Cleo (Mrs. Leslie) Clemons of Elvins and Roxie Eye of St. Louis. He was married in 1925 to Miss Bertha Robinson of Irondale, who survives him. Besides his wife and children he leaves eleven grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Annie Gibson of Shirley and Mrs. Martha Smith of Potosi, and two brothers, Edward and Simm Eye, both of Shirley, Mo. Mr. Eye was engaged in the timber and cattle business at Belgrade for several years. He later conducted a mercantile business in Belgrade, Irondale and Ironton. In 1931 he located in Elvins, where he has owned the store which will continue to operate under his name. At the age of 19 years he confessed faith in Christ and united with the White Oak Baptist Church at Shirley and at the time of his death was a member of the Elvins Baptist Church. He was a splendid citizen, a good husband and father and will be sadly missed in the community.
